Hi Ladies!

Since this is my first deployment, I'm not at all sure how R&R works. They told db to write down the dates he wanted and bring them to a meeting they had tonight. DB said they never ended up asking for the dates. Instead they had everyone line up and draw a number from a hat. DB got #6...I figured this meant he would be 6th in line to pick his r&r dates. He thinks it means he'll be 6th in line to come home, which would probably put him here in a little over a month. He doesn't know because he didn't want to ask. I think he was afraid he would jinx it. :paranoid Apparently he almost didn't get leave because his Sgt listed him as someone wanting the 4 day pass instead of leave. :arg

Which makes more sense...6th to leave or 6th to pick dates? I've searched through previous posts trying to understand R&R and the process by which it comes about, but I'm just lost. :dunno Can I get some help, pretty please? I know nothing is set in stone. I'd just at least like to understand the process.

Thanks so much! :D

we don't get R&R BUT I would assume that he gets to be 6th to pick...it would make more since to have him be #6 to pick rather than be 6th to go home.

Each group is different. Some allow the guys to submit their dates to come home if it is for something special or important (birth of a baby) and then assign dates to the rest.

Some pick numbers and it can either be the order in which to chose dates or what order you go home in.

Other just arbitrarily assign dates and you have to see if someone will trade with you if you don't like the dates.

It's up to the commander

:agree My DH's group was assigned random numbers. When your number came up, you started the R&R process. We got about 3 weeks notice of our R&R.

Yeah each unit is different. My boyfriend didnt get to pick. They just gave him a date. I have heard of some units drawing out of a hat or letting people who want to be home for births pick first. It just depends.

Thanks for the information! I just think it's so odd that they didn't tell db what his # means.
