well, buddy's bloodwork came back normal, so he's all set to go for surgery next thursday. :sigh
but now...they shaved a spot on his neck to draw the blood, and there's like a discharge coming from the shaved area...
is that normal? it doesn't smell or anything, but when i wipe it when it wash cloth it's kind yellowish and it's making his hair on his neck all crusty. he's also pretty itchy there--could that be what's making it discharge?
i'm calling the vet first thing in the morning about it, but wondering if anyone might know anything.

The discharge doesn't sound normal to me. When they fixed Miley they shaved her leg for the IV and she never got any kind of discharge from it. I hope everything will be alright with him :sadeyes

The discharge does not sound normal at all. Usually when they shave down an animal there is nothing to discharge or make crusty. Call the vet in the morning. You can give him some Benedryl for the itching. 1mg per pound.

You know....I wonder if they burned him with the razor and that is why he has the irritation and discharge. Maybe a cold compress would help him and clean the area with some peroxide as well as the Benedryl for itching he would be more comfortable.

i gave him some children's benadryl and have been keep it clean. i don't have any vet wrap or gauze or i would wrap it up. hopefully the benadryl will keep his foot off it and give it some time to heal over night...
i just hate having to wait until morning to call the vet.

an hour or so after giving the benadryl, it's dried up quite a bit. so i'm hoping that was the solution and it'll heal up over night or so.
thank god that throughout this all, he's still himself. he still playful, has bright eyes, big appetite. i don't know what i would do if he was lethargic on top of it all.
ETA: i think i figured out why it'll look good, then go back to being wet and sticky and gross. he's sooooo jowly! he's got a droopy neck. lol. so it keeps the moisture trapped in. i'm going to get put some neosporine on it tonight since it's in an area he can't lick. then i'll get some vet wrap tomorrow. it's not red or inflammed or anything like that. just...draining. it's weird.
i think my vet thinks i'm crazy cause we're in all the time, but he's never lost his appetite or had diarrhea or anything like that. he's just a weird weird dog i guess. :dunno
