View Full Version : any tips on latching/nursing??? Purplekittie 06-21-2008, 12:17 PM one baby kitten wont latch on and nurse. he seems like he isnt interested but i know he must be hungry!! USCGBoxerMom 06-21-2008, 12:32 PM Put the kitten up to the nipple and rub vigorously on it's forehead and back this should stimulate the kitten to turn on to nursing, if he makes a little clicking sound that is natural. If the kitten does not latch and nurse, you need to supplement with some baby kitten milk from the pet store and check with a vet to make sure the kitten is not ill. Purplekittie 06-21-2008, 12:38 PM thank you... all he seems to want to do right now is sleep, so i guess ill try again when he's awake. USCGBoxerMom 06-21-2008, 12:40 PM Honestly, I would be a little worried about a newborn kitten that does not want to suckle and only wants to sleep. You may want to get the kitten milk and a bottle and try to bottle feed him. Purplekittie 06-21-2008, 01:58 PM UPDATE - kitten was nursing when i walked in a few minutes ago!! VinnysGirl 06-21-2008, 02:01 PM YAY! Sometimes they are just so tired and suckling pulls too much energy! We had to supplement a puppy that my friend's dog had because she just wasn't strong enough... once she was hydrated she nursed with the rest of them! :) |
