View Full Version : Well Sh*t.
Becca 06-21-2008, 07:33 PM I think I broke DH's jeep.
Since he deployed, I've been going out and starting it once a month. No problems...until today. This time it doesn't want to start, just wants to roll over and then go "CLICKCLICKCLICKCLICKCLICKCLICKCLICK".
Anybody know what that means? :confused
I probably should have done it every 2 weeks.
Navywife85 06-21-2008, 07:34 PM sounds like the battery
:edit
ill ask my hubs and tell you what he says
:edit
he says the same thing
It sounds like a dead battery or bad starter. Most likely it's the battery b/c the vehicle has been sitting. Get someone to jump the jeep off and let it run for about 15-20 minutes. The alternator will recharge the battery. If not then get a new one, they're about $60 at O'Reilly's or Autozone, stay away from Wal-Mart batteries, though. Each time you start the car for him while it's in storage, you should let it run at least 10 minutes to give a chance to recharge the battery, even if it's a new one. As the car sits each day you lose a little bit of charge, the amount depends on the vehicle and the age of the battery. So, when you start it the next time you're charging the starting of the car and the discharge from the past few days. Start it once a week, or twice a week for an older battery, and you should be fine. Hope this helps. Good luck.
quoted my hubs.. :lmao he is also anti wal-mart.. i got yelled at for takeing my neon to get its oil changed...
he has had bad luck with wal-mart parts
NewBeginnings 06-21-2008, 07:35 PM batttery maybe alternator.. I'd say battery though..

Debra 06-21-2008, 07:36 PM I did the same exact thing to DH's truck. I drove it aorund once a month but back in April or May, it wouldn't start. It was the battery & just needed jumped when he got home a few weeks ago.

NewBeginnings 06-21-2008, 07:42 PM Becca don't feel bad I did the same thing ot our car during deployment. Josh's first "husbandly duty" when he got home from deployment that day... go buy a new battery and put it in the car :lol.

JKirstiH 06-21-2008, 07:57 PM I agree with the above. Does the radio or lights come on? If not then it can possibly be the starter:dunno
Last deployment everything with the cars went wrong.
kathy 06-21-2008, 07:59 PM Well, crap..does that mean while Steve is gone for 6 weeks I need to be starting his Jeep? :lmao
Guess I'll get started on that!:P
Missing Pokey 17 06-21-2008, 09:07 PM I say battery.
proudofmysailor 06-21-2008, 09:10 PM Battery. Not that I know this because I didn't start DH's car enough and the battery went dead or anything... :blush (It happened last month...)
Becca 06-21-2008, 09:29 PM Well, crap..does that mean while Steve is gone for 6 weeks I need to be starting his Jeep? :lmao

NewBeginnings 06-21-2008, 09:30 PM Becca we have all learned a valuable lesson from you today :teehee
mackenziesmommy 06-21-2008, 09:36 PM well you got your answer...I guess I got lucky because last deployment I only started our truck MAYBE 4 times the whole 6 months and nothing happened...good thing someone's driving the truck this time.

Yeah we would N E V E R get a battery at walmart :lol We killed BOTH RV batteries (forgot to disc the coach) and went to Sears to replace them. We always go to Sears because they have a lifetime guarantee ;)
I could use my car to jump the jeep but I don't have cables at this point. I emailed DH and let him know - he'll tell me what he wants me to do about it :lol

I used to go to Sears until they almost blew up my car by leaving the drain plug loose on my oil change. Drove it from Seattle to LA and all around So Cali before driving it back. I took it in to the dealership because something was smelling hot and yea, the oil drain plug was finger tight with oil all over my engine and transmission, plus there was almost no oil left in the car. :sigh
I agree though, sounds like the battery or starter. I wouldn't go to Sears though.

We've never had any work done there, we just buy their batteries (Die Hards) because of the lifetime guarantee ;)

Sorry, I didn't realize that you were installing it yourself. :D Hope it gets fixed soon and isn't too much of a headache!
cyndilou 06-21-2008, 11:08 PM That sounds like what my Jimmy was doing last week. I had to get a new battery. Hope that is all it is for you too. Good Luck

piggypunkinetta 06-21-2008, 11:21 PM I am a bad wife. I haven't started dh's jeep in two months. oops :blush
Heather 06-22-2008, 12:00 AM I did that to Johns car last summer when he was on deployment. The housing I lived had road side assistance for dead batteries and such so I called them up the day before he came home and got it jumped.
Gillian_Angela 06-22-2008, 12:07 AM batttery maybe alternator.. I'd say battery though..
let's hope it's not the alternator for her sake. Those things are expensive, and the labor alone could be around 800 bucks depending on where it sits on the jeep.
In trucks I know they are near the front of the car, but in sedans they are underneath the engine so it is a huge PITA. I'm not sure about a Jeep...but the altenator would succck.

You could go to AutoZone and they will install the battery for you for free :D
Shaky 06-22-2008, 12:18 AM Girl, when J is deploy I always use his car and probably start mine once or maybe twice during the whole deployment! Shame on me!
I hope it's not much trouble to get it fix.

I can install the battery - but thanks for the tip :)

I could change it out if I had to, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard. I think I'll probably just wind up letting it sit though until DH gets home. I don't use it anyways.
:lol

KevnSue 06-22-2008, 01:55 AM OMG Becca that hapened to me to DB truck died on me and I had to pay 200 buck for a new battery and I got a Trckle Cell charged that I now keep plugged in all the time to the mains. That was two weeks and I was starting it every week.
Dead battery. I did that to my truck and some idiot bf of my ovum-donor tried everything else he could think of. (read: idiot)
My daddy showed up, finally, and looked at it for two minutes, jumped it, and the damn thing ran just fine. :dunno You live and learn that you can't let cars sit too long!
torie. 06-23-2008, 01:05 AM I could change it out if I had to, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard. I think I'll probably just wind up letting it sit though until DH gets home. I don't use it anyways.
