Any of you ladies are or have lived in Cherry Point (Havelock) NC? We just got orders to there, and i was wondering how housing is? How the town is? What is there to do? Is it afforable to rent out in town? thank you:D

We lived there :)
We lived off base in Havelock. The housing IMO wasnt all that great so we decided to live off base and the rent wasnt bad either. We had a duplex, 2 min from the base, close to the bank, the movies, and the grocery store and hey your in luck I heard they just opened up a Super Walmart (trust me you'll be going there a lot :giggle) You wont have to drive all the way to Morehead City just to go Walmart. The area is pretty nice, very small town but your not to far from the beach, always a plus. It gets pretty darn humid and hot. All in all its not bad, we actaully miss it there. Also go to Bojangles, they have the best chicken, way better than KFC lol.

IMO, you would be better off in New Bern or Morehead City than Cherry Point. It is a small town with little to nothing.. The only thing going for it is that it is close to the beach..... There is nothing to do in Havelock but the surrounding towns have more to offer.... Put it this way, Havelock JUST got a Walmart... it is a very small town. I am not far from there at all..

It's a really tiny town I agree but with the way gas prices are, I would stay close to the base than have to drive 20 or 30 min everyday. Dh got transfered over to Bogue his last month before leaving Cherry Point to go over to Japan and gas was outragous for us every single week.

And hey at least you could have the weekends and go out of town and do a little running around. Thats what we did, it was nice.

Thank you ladies. We have looked at house and decided to buy a house. We are going for between Havelock and New Bern. Trying not to get too far from base because of gas prices. I'm really excited, we live in a tiny town right now (29 palms), there is nothing here at all and walmart is 30 min drive and if you want to do anything besides that you have to drive to palm springs. lol hell i'm looking forward to being able to order sweet tea again.
