View Full Version : Need some advice!
*~*Cori*~* 06-22-2008, 02:41 PM Zooey is sooo cute and I love her to peices but she is really mean at times. I can't pet her hardly at all during the day unless we are laying in bed napping or at night. She is so sweet and calm at night. She either sleeps curled into my arms or ontop of my side since I sleep on my side(very funny to see lol) But the rest of the day I will go to pet her or hold her and she will attack me and claw me and bite me. It isn't enough to draw blood but those teeth are razors. I am hoping it's just cause she is a kitten and when we get her fixed next month and she gets a little older she will mellow out. She is only about 15 weeks old. But, till then, do you have any advice to keep her from chewing me up?!? I can't bear to pop her eventhough DH tells me to... it does not work anyways. So... advice anybody?!? :whatever
Shaky 06-22-2008, 02:46 PM How long have you had her for Cori?
When my kittens try to bite me it's because I start rubbing their front part of their body and they think I'm playing but as soon as they start trying to bite me I say NO, then continue rubbing them and continue saying NO till they get that that's not good. It works but at this age (mine are 8 weeks) all they think is play time.
Does she do it as playing or do you think she really mean it?
PeppermintRei 06-22-2008, 02:47 PM The way a momma kitty disciplines is by holding the kitten down with a paw over the neck and by putting a paw over their head or on their nose. Hold until she calms down. I still use it with my two and they are 3 and 5.
Miss ♥ 06-22-2008, 02:50 PM My neighbor used this bitter spray for pets whenever her kitten would bite or claw. It really helped.

We have had her since the end of April and she was 6 weeks old when we got her. I try to believe she is just guneinly(sp) playful and still a baby and not just got a mean streak. She is pretty highstung so she thinks its always play time. She is always purring when she does it. I had a cat like that when I was younger but she never grew out of it. She would purr for attention and when you would try and pet her she would claw you to bits! Scary thing is Zooey looks JUST like her :scared
We "might" be getting another kitten next weekend. A siamese kitten that my sister is trying to get me.. she has the sister... and they would be about the same age (couple weeks difference) so I am hoping if that works out she will have a friend to play with and it will get better or I guess they could hate each other and it would be hell :shock

Thanks for the advice! I will try that! :)

What does it do? Just have a bitter taste to it? Where do you find it? PetsMart maybe? Walmart?
fridayheather 06-22-2008, 03:09 PM She'll probably calm down alot once you get her fixed. I also used to use a squirt bottle of water on my kitties when they were behaving badly, it doesn't hurt them but it sure does get the message across.
*~*Cori*~* 06-22-2008, 03:12 PM I am hoping so about spaying her. The voucher we have says make an appt around July 1st so she will be having it done in the next couple weeks. I need to call and make the appt. I will try the water bottle trick too since I actually have that on hand. :yes
She is so funny though when she is being hyper and not eating me :P She is chasing her tail right now and then she got dizzy and tried to jump onto the entertainment center and soo missed and she is no watching the rain drops fall down the window and trying to get them. Oh wait till it thunders she will go nutts. :teehee They are comic relief!
Bridget<3Avery 06-22-2008, 03:24 PM Try scruffing her. That is harmless and it is something the mother does when they are babies. That usually is calming but of course it doesn't affect every cat.
Donna 06-22-2008, 03:31 PM I dont know.... my cats that did that as baby's just wound up not being lap cats. Well, they are when THEY want to, but any other time, they want nothing to do with any of us.:dunno
Miss ♥ 06-22-2008, 03:40 PM the spray just has a bitter taste. I'm sure you can get it at petsmart..they have everything:)
Shaky 06-22-2008, 03:43 PM Cori if you get another cat I'm pretty sure they will learn to adjust to each other. I know my two kittens go nuts playing and I think they are fighting but it's really playing. I'm sooo glad they got each other! but because they got each other and they play like that with each other they think every time my hand is coming over to their belly it's play time and they play like trying to catch my hand, they literally grab it and put it in their mouth, I say NO and hold them down.
I do the spray bottle with water, it does calm them down but I read in a cat book to not let them see you doing it :dunno don't know why.

You want them to associate the unpleasant squirt of water with whatever it is they are doing that is wrong/bad. If the see you squirting them they can associate it with you rather than the behaviour they are doing. It is best/most effective if it comes out of nowhere.

Oh thanks for that tip!!! :yes
And we are getting a new kitty my sister and her Mom have "him" right now! His name is either Zeke or Zues! I will post a pick when she sends it to my phone but she says he is beautiful! (L)

:agree and a loud rolled up newspaper works well too-just smack it on a surfafce to make a loud noise with it & it will send a message to the kitty too:yes
