Updated in a new response below...

Ok, we're talking about a port call here, so sorry to be vague.

Option #1:
A country house. The absolute closest thing I can find. Middle of the road pricing - about $1,100 for the entire trip. Small town, not much to do, but may be a quaint setting. Very old, but very nice. Kind of picturesque.

Option #2:
Close to base as well. One town farther out then Option #1. Very affordable. About $800 for the entire trip. Small town, not much to do. Definitely an older hotel, not very fancy. Since it's so close, affordable, and large compared to others in the area, there will probably be a lot of sailors here.

Option #3:
A little farther out, maybe a 20 - 25 minute drive. Very, very nice. A destination in itself. The most expensive. Probably about $1,250 for the whole trip. With the little bit of distance, and the higher price, I'm thinking we'd also get some privacy. Has a spa, it's on the water, and it's gorgeous. I might not be able to drag dh away for sightseeing! :giggle

I'm leaning toward 1 or 3, just because neither of us want to be surrounded by people from the boat. But, #2 would leave us the most money to spend on other things, like sightseeing, car rental, etc.

So, based on those very vague assumptions, which would you choose?

OMG it's Andrea!

I'd go #3. it's only $150 more than #1 and it sounds really nice and offers more privacy.

#1 because it's beautiful and close enough so you don't have to waste much time driving but if the distance wont be much of an issue on him when having to go back to the boat and you driving back by your self late then I would go with #3 since it's only a little bit more.

Tough choice. If you're planning on doing more sightseeing than not, go for #1, if you plan on hanging together and hump like rabbits, go for #3. :lol

Well shoot. I called to reserve #3, and found out that that price was actually for their sister hotel, about 10 miles north, which is nice, but not nearly as nice. And the actual hotel I was looking at was more than double that price! YIKES! I thought it was strange that it was so nice and not terribly much more. So with that extra chunk of miles up small roads, that sister hotel is too far.

I decided to split the trip, half country, half city. So I booked the city half. That was easy. I had already found a favorite hotel, and there were so many options.

No I'm back to picking the country hotel, and it's still between 1 and 2, but with the extra problem that I think someone else from the boat might already have booked #1. Dh specifically said he didn't want to be in a little B&B type place with anyone else from the boat. And I feel like it's too rude to call her up and say, hey, are you staying there? Cause if you are, I don't want to! :giggle
