Hoover is um... overly excitable. He pees all over the place whenever I let him out (while still INSIDE), whenever someone comes IN, whenever HE comes in... I am just at a loss.
I have looked it up and the solution is: desensitize them to the stimuli that causes it.
SO essentially I'm supposed to let him in, out, in, out, in, out and have someone come in, out, in, out, in out? Seriously. I am trying that, and it is not working.
Anyone have any useful advice for me? My husband is fed up with him over this even though the poor guy is just a little pup, and he is about to kick him out to be a fulltime outside dog. :tears
ETA he is potty trained for the most part, he does ask to go out. This is not just peeing because he has to pee. It's any time the door opens for any reason. RAWR.

Yogi still pees all over the place, even at a year old and there is nothing medically wrong with him and no way we've found to really stop it. I just keep him outside if I know people are coming over or something. Otherwise, he pisses all over the floor and I'm tired of cleaning it up. So, I just end up keeping him outdoors a lot of times.

Yeah I think we'll just have to deal with it too. :sigh It's so annoying cleaning it up. He got kicked out today already because he peed all over again. I guess he will just be outside most of the day, not that he minds necessarily but he's just so cute I want him inside. :lol

awwww!!!!
I know how frustrating it is to clean up pee. Have you tried "doggy diapers"?. They are like little cloth diapers with basically a maxi-pad that you can remove out and you don't have to wash :D

I've tried the doggy diapers on other male dogs, but because they're more made for females and the males have their spouts way higher up it doesn't really help too much. I might fashion one myself, though (tube style) because I feel so bad he's got to be outside. :(

aww :( That's so sad that he's having a hard time. Poor little guy. Yeah, I would try and see if you can work something out so the diaper can still work. I'll see if I can find something up at Petsmart. I have to take DC to get his nails clipped later on, so I'll look for you :D

It's pretty common for puppies, they eventually grow out of it, but it takes time. Emmie is almost 1 1/2 and she finally doens't pee a little when someone new somes around :lol Lilah only pees a little when she gets scared and she's gotten a lot better about that, she almost never does it now.

my dog used to do that when she was a puppy; every time i came home she'd get so excited that she'd dribble a little bit--the vet called it excitatory urination, and unfortunately I think the only way to deal with it is to make the door opening and closing less exciting.
something I did that worked was to never acknowledge my dog when i came inside for about five minutes--not looking at her, not petting her when she jumped up on me--nothing. just completely ignoring her until she calmed down. eventually i think they get it that the door opening is not quite as exciting as they thought--because they get ignored at first. then as soon as they calm down you can give them all the love in the world.
it could also be just a waiting game as far as his bladder just maturing more. my puppy physically couldn't hold it in all the time until she was a about six months old. then suddenly she got over it. how old is he?
good luck!!

Boris does it all the time well not all the time but enough that it annoys me. it's called subservient peeing. http://www.phsspca.org/training/qa_submissive_urination.htm
or submissive urination. it just takes time and patience to cure.
