My bf is currently at Fort Bliss and will be going on to Baghdad to work in the embassy. Does anyone know the likelihood that he'll have a decent wireless connection in either of these locations? He has his own wireless capable laptop with him, but what does that matter if he has no access.

I think it really just depends...crappy answer I know. Depends on what his job is where he is etc. I know that DB had internet and to be honest I was never sure if it was something his team paid out of pocket for (they had talked about doing that early on) or if they got access thru the FOB. It sure makes life easier. Sounds like there's a better chance at the embassy than most would have though

All the bases that DB has been at in Iraq so far have access to computers with internet access given to them for free, but they have to wait in line and have time limits.

But his unit had to pool $ together and buy the equipment and pay for monthly service in order to get the wireless internet for his laptop.

Everyone has different access(how often and the amount of time) but he should have access.

My hubby is shipping today to Bliss w/ NJNG. What units are your s.o.'s with? Maybe we are close by? As for your question, my dh told me that he is paying $100 for the tour to have internet access in his FOB. He also said it depends on where you are stationed. Hope this helps.

DB goes to the embassy often (they have a nice pool too) anyway.
I know that they dont' always have the internet, but they have better access to phones. When DB is there he calls me more often if that helps. But thats just my experience.

Haha, I was just coming on here to tell you, I just spoke to my DB on the phone and he said that there's only one place there that they can get internet, and he was supposed to get two hours online today, but of course, two hours turned into ten minutes. But yes, there is a place. (But you already figured that one out)

Mine is with the NJNG 50th IBCT as well! He is with the 50th Chem. They left last night and were boarding at McGuire to head to Bliss this morning.
