Yorkie: Adult
So DH has his dog, a 6 month old, 60 pound, Chocolate Lab named DUKE, Which we have come to realize I am allergic to. Well my mom did a lot of research and found 3 dogs that I am able to have that don't bother my allergies. So I have been looking in the paper and online and saving up my money and I have narrowed it down to these 2. I just don't know which one I want!!!
I had a yorkie (which is the black/tan/silver dog) but it got run over while I was at the salon a few years ago. I was thinking of getting the Maltese next, but am still unsure.
HELP!!
torie. 06-24-2008, 02:02 PM Hmmm... I am partial to the maltese only because it looks so similar to my bichon-poodle :wub But Yorkies are so gosh darn cute!
Purplekittie 06-24-2008, 02:05 PM yorkie!!
Caimbrie 06-24-2008, 02:08 PM They both require daily grooming... their coats are a LOT of work...
Maltese have a better temperment than Yorki's typically do.

Yes they do. My mom has a yorkie named Shadow, and I had a yorkie named Chloe. So I was leaning toward and Maltese since I've already had a yorkie, but I can't make up my mind. If I had the money I would get both!
Bryanna 06-24-2008, 02:18 PM maltese! yorkies are very nice.. but that lil white puppy is TOO cute!
I wouldnt keep the hair that long on an adult though haha

Yeah I would try to keep it a little shorter, but their hair is suppose to long, so I'll keep it at a medium length hehe.
ilovekale 06-24-2008, 02:29 PM omg omg omg, i want that maltese!
jenniferleanne 06-24-2008, 02:30 PM I have the same problem w/ allergies. What were the breeds she found that you weren't allergic to? I have heard Shih Tzu but none other than that...

Maltese, Yorkie, Poodle, Shih Tzu. It doesn't bother allergies because the hair of the dog is more human like, and doesn't have the dander which stirs up the allergy to dogs!! =)

My havachon who looks just like a maltese we keep her in a puppy cut for convenience :lol

I like the Yorkie but I cannot decide, no matter what I would keep a puppy cut to keep them from tangling
Dopal 06-24-2008, 02:54 PM If I had to pick between the 2 I would pick the Maltese. I have a mini schnauzer and they are supposed to be good dogs for people with allergies too. You might wanna research them too. They don't shed very often.
Marine_Lover15 06-24-2008, 02:55 PM It's not really about the length of the hair. I just need to know which of the two ya'll like better. The upkeep is not what matters. I can deal with either. I just can't decide because they both sooooo adorable

When the hair isn't short even skipping a day or 2 on brushing can result in matts, it's a pia :no
MrsDarland 06-24-2008, 02:58 PM I voted YORKIE!!!! they are sooo much fun!!!!

That is why the puppy we're getting in 2 weeks is a lab :lmao I love my other 2 dogs, but the coats that need to be cut or trimmed is enough work. I told Tony we will never get any long haired breed again :lol

Yes I know..I always had to brush Chloe after she was outside playing and running around. In the summer I always cut it shorter than normal because of the heat. In the winter I let it grow out a bit.
