DH and I are finally moving to a house where we can have pets, and we want to get a cat.
The problem is, we have a brand new, very expensive leather couch we splurged on and we don't want the cat to scratch it up.
DH hates the idea of having a cat or kitten declawed, so I found the claw caps alternative.

Has anyone used these? How easy are they to put on? Can you use them on a kitten or younger cat, or do you have to wait til they are full grown? Do they stay on good?
Thanks,
Ashley

I use soft paws on my two. They are pretty easy to put on and they come in kitten sizes. As long as your cat is used to being handled they are simple to put on. I do it alone, but it's easier with two people. The first couple applications may not stay on as long because the cat will chew them off, but once they are used to them they stay on about 6 weeks and you just reapply one at a time as they fall off. Here's a pic of one of my babies with the red ones on:
I vant to drink your blood! :lol

I use soft paws.... They are fantastic and you can make them match. You trim the nail, then glue on the cap. If you can't do it, your local vet will. As far as declawing, imagine someone cutting your finger from your top joint and gluing your skin back together. Thats exactly how they do it to cats. I am a vet tech and have seen a lot of things, but ear cropping and declawing are the two most disturbing.

I wanted to add--the cats chew the caps off because they aren't used to them, the same way they try to get rid of a collar. The caps DO NOT hurt the kitties at all. They can still retract and extend their claws. You can also put them on back claws with I would recommend if you get a kitten so he doesn't dig his back feet into the couch.

I have been a cat owner my whole life- I have tried the soft paws- on several different cats- and have come to the conclusion it is easier and cheaper in the long run to just get them declawed.
I have 3 cats now- a tabby we got declawed at 7 months he's now 6, a tux we declawed at 7 months she is now 8, and a bengal at 6 weeks he is now 7 months.
they all healed just fine and have not had any lasting "side effects" from the surgeries.

I am COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY opposed to declawing and think it's completely inhumane and torture to a cat. But to each their own.
I use the Soft Paws on Bubba and they are WONDERFUL!! He minded the first time we put them on as a kitten and chewed one or two off, but we just popped new ones on. They come off naturally when the cat sheds the sheath of their nails, so we just trim the nail and put on a new one.
