How much of your salary, or both of yours, or just your spouses if you don't work, goes to retirement?

We're doing 3% for the first 2 years while we're paying down debt.

2% while we're trying to pay off our debt.

DH is staying in until 20 years, so we will have that retirement as well.

I put 10% and my employer matches up to 6%, so a total of 16% goes towards my retirement.

10% of basic and 20% of all special pays (SRB, etc.) Plus we put another 3% in an IRA.

Oh yeah, I forget his company matches dollar to dollar, so I guess it would be 6%.

I want to say 5% but I'm not super sure. DH has a certain amount that gets sent off to our financial guy every pay period, we have an IRA and some other stuff plus our life insurance, etc.

Then once I start teaching, we'll put even more into our retirement fund :yes. We will both have jobs that have retirement benefits and play to use those to the max. I don't want to be working when I'm 70, kwim?

I'm not 100% sure but I know its not the full amount his company will match. He keeps saying hes going to up it. As things stand right now he'll retire with 1.6 million. Not a bad chunk of change.
