I posted about the birth of these babes in "Celebrations"
And today I took some photos and saw not one or two - but four, definately, and maybe even 5!

Now - this is a stray cat we considered taking to the pound, actually, because she was so sick-looking but I didn't have the heart to doom her poor soul so I just left her alone. And then all of a sudden she had some babies!

This is underneath an old car that's in our carport - she had the babies where they're sleeping (on the left-side, laying on an old glove) and when I went to take photos I spooked her and she took off to the tire - out of my reach.

Now - I think she just has 4 and in these photos they're all sleeping on the glove. But you can see an orange-colored fuzzy thing next to her and I think that might be another kitten but I can't tell.
What do you think?

So I don't know what to do. I don't want to take them to a pound and I really don't want to seperate all of them until it's ok. :shrug

Awwww they're so cute! Pounds scare me and I'd probably only want to take them to a no kill shelter if I could. I'm sure kittens would get picked up pretty quickly though and hopefully the mom would be spayed so she can't have anymore kittens. Leaving them in the wild isn't so good sometimes. My granda has kittens from a cat and they hang around her garage and she feeds them but they look so sick and awful it makes me sad. :sadeyes

aww theyre soo cute! :)
and i definetly think theres a 5th by the mom!
you should probably call animal control, theyll keep them all together until the kittens are old enough to be seperated from theyre mother and make sure they all get a good home, most likely theyll take them to a hummane society. but if theyre in a safe place where they wont be bothered you can just leave them be and put out cat food for the mom, then when theyre 8 weeks old take them all to a hummane society.

I would take them in. They would probably be put with a foster family so there given the best chance of survival, and all the necessary vaccinations they need.

Yeah - the 4th is by the Mama. Looks like she grabbed it and ran when you came.

They're sooooooooo sweet! (L)

You will need to "acclimate" them to human beings. If they are not handled and petted they will be the wildest little things you ever saw. Trying to catch them when they get older will be hard and they will hiss, spit, growl and scratch you when you try (in fact they will do that right now when you try to touch them).
You can also get the mom to trust you by taking her treats and putting them as close to her as you can and then talking to her softly. After a time move the bowl closer to you. It will take some time but eventually she will associate you with good things and may even trust you enough to let you pet here. That way if you keep her you can get her to a vet before she has any more.

Unless you take them to a no kill center, the pound will not take the time to acclimate them for adoption.

Soo cute! I'm pretty sure too that's another one by her!

I had something similar happen to me. Only I had like 3 stray cats on my yard that would come every day and I would feed them. They would NEVER let me touch them then about 9 months later two of them had kittens :shock that was a big shocker! I called Animal Control cause I didn't know what to do with the kittens and they told me they could come and try to catch them but to know that if they catch them they would put them down to sleep :( I told them never mind. I kept two of them that were doing terrible (I didn't think they were going to make it), one of the girls from here took two more and there are still three kittens out there. I'm tramping them and getting them fixed (got 3 of them fixed so far :cp )
Anyway, that's my story. I hope you can find a home for them and please make sure if you take them to a shelter or something make sure they wont put them down please :(

I'd love to keep one or four! But Momma is soooo wild that won't happen easily. Though yesterday, after she had them, she did let us pet her on the head and seemed just exhausted and comforted by our presence and thankful for food/water.

I'm going to call a vet and see what they say about when/how to take Momma and babies and all that good stuff.

Unfortunately we can't afford to fix them all...But i know an old friend who's a vet and perhaps she might have some promising people who can pay for all their needs and are willing to take them in - or at least know of a no-kill shelter I can take them to.
That is somethign I could definately be ok with.

Ok - called the vet and he said "If she carried that many kittens and had them then they're relatively healthy. IF she was really sick she wouldn't have been able to do so nad might have aborted the kittens."

So, just like a few of you said, he told me to give them about a week before I start to get close to the kittens. Give them food every day and befriend them all. If Momma sees we care for her kittens and don't want any harm to come to them then she'll become more comfortable with us.
