You should drive to Myrtle Beach. It's a long drive, but so worth it. I lived in NC too, loved it once I got used to it. I am from CA; Riverside/Long Beach/Temecula areas. I know how hard it is to adjust there believe me!

Welcome to sos!

IT's really only a 2 hr drive, and Holden Beach is about 45 mins out I believe. :D Myrtle is nice though! Lots of shops and restaurants. Still not CA beachy, but interesting and fun nonetheless. :D

Hello and welcome!!!
Some helpful hints about learning to enjoy southern living:
1) Grits are best with shrimp. If you don't know what a grit is, watch "my cousin Vinny"
2) Never eat at a waffle house while the sun is still shining...
3) Y'all is singular, Al'ya'all is plural.
4) Nascar is not just a sport, its a lifestyle.
5) Professional Wrestling...See Nascar.
6) The difference between yankies and Damned Yankies: Damned yankees stayed.
7) And it was "The war of North Aggression" and the South did not lose, they are just regrouping their troops.
8) When you order Iced tea, no need to add sugar :) They have never heard of Unsweetened tea.
Enjoy!!!!

Where in the bay area are you from? Before moving to San Diego I lived in Redwood City and then Haight-Ashbury for for a year each.

Awww the south isn't to bad- Fayetteville may be but the rest really isn't! I can't imagine being so far from my family either- 7 hours to Atlanta is bad enough- so many :hugs for that. You need to get your DH to take you up to the mountains to get a truly good appreciation for NC- in the mean time I suggest checking out Raven Rock State Park (about 35 min. from Ft. Bragg) for a hike or something- you can even rent canoes/rafts from places hear by & go down the river which is a ton of fun.

:unlove:unloveAnyone in CA or WA want to swich!? I would do anything to move back to the left coast. I think that if i get a job out here(which is REALLY hard) it will help keep my mind off being so far from my family. I mean we might have to mmiss christmas with our familys because we are SO broke... I really am trying to like it here i have made a few friends and there are a few I would really miss. And my husband is so sweet he offered to move me back home and give me money so i can live in my own place back in CA and he will live in the barriks and save money and get us a nicer place here. Oh well next year we are going to apply for base housing or and if we dont get it we are deffently moving out of fayetteville:unlove:unlove

Go to North Myrtle Beach. It's a bit more family oriented, and you don't have the single, military guys going up and down the strip looking for tail :lol
