View Full Version : Are you working while he's away?
navy.baby 06-26-2008, 03:18 PM I'm just curious as to how many of us are doing at least a part time job or how many are homemakers. Either one is completely respectable if you ask me, but I wonder who's doing what? (of course kids change things! but think back before the wonderful gifts of life! or please share if you're a full time mom!)
Kristen 06-26-2008, 03:24 PM Right now, I'm just volunteering, and I'm looking for the 'right' part time job. In other words, my expectations far exceed the norm, and aren't very realistic! :giggle
Alexandra 06-26-2008, 03:26 PM I work full time (well, full time for a school employee, which is 7.5 hours a day, 212 days a year ;)) During DH's first deployment, I finished grad school. I think that the structure of school/work/internship helps me cope while DH is gone. I would feel very isolated if I stayed at home while he was gone. I don't have kids though.
Donna 06-26-2008, 04:39 PM before the kids I worked 2 jobs when DH was deployed. Then would drop back down to 1 when he was home.
Kristen 06-26-2008, 04:44 PM I should add that last time, I worked full-time, and it made time really fly. But this time, I haven't lucked out to find a job that gives me the flexibility to do the ombudsman stuff, and travel to port calls. And port calls are VERY important to me. :D
But I am looking!
CoffeeGirl 06-26-2008, 04:58 PM I work part time but I am off for the summer:yay
AllyssaM 06-26-2008, 05:07 PM I worked up until a year ago, and then I moved to into our house and have been a housewife for almost exactly a year. And I love it. I think I started working too young.. I started when I was in 8th grade. At a home day care. Worked after school most days. I had summers off, which was nice. But I basically worked straight until a year after I Graduated HS. So now I just don't wanna work.
MrsDarland 06-26-2008, 05:09 PM Im working full time right now, butr while DH is gone Ill be a full time student and sommewhere between part time and full time working, not sure how much yet.....
*lauren* 06-26-2008, 05:11 PM i work full time
rcwant2be 06-26-2008, 05:15 PM I grew up on a farm, so I've literally worked all my life. I plan to work fulltime in support of the lifestyle I choose to live.

Bridget<3Avery 06-26-2008, 05:17 PM I work part time at an emergency animal hospital. I'm a veterinary technician. I'm just keeping my schedule the same as I would during the school year. Then I'll work full time in almost 2 years. Last deployment I was working full time and it made the days pass by faster. Oh well.
KevnSue 06-26-2008, 06:33 PM I work full time:) I would rather work part time though.
savannaleigh 06-28-2008, 01:24 AM I just finished a 2 week temp. job that paid awesomely but was like 40 hours a week. Currently gonna take a week off for the 4th/friends 21st and hopefully look for another temp job or something part time. But, I usually don't work while I'm going to school, so will probably be unemployed in August haha
Becca 06-28-2008, 01:26 AM I work, full time, as a mommy :lol DH's deployed and I hold down the fort, make sure the bills get paid and the kids get fed, the dog gets vaccinations and the cat gets to live.
:giggle
I (L) my job, and I know I'm one of the lucky ones.
I haven't worked since my daughter was born. I go to school fulltime which REALLY helps the time go by faster, and of course, I have a two year old that keeps me busy.
monkeyinabarrel 06-28-2008, 02:00 AM i was in grad school during the first half of his last deployment and moved to s.f. for the other half. for the next one i will go back to school or take an architecture for humanity job somewhere craxy. i use that time to do stuff i always wanted to do (no kids)
RunAwayLove 06-28-2008, 02:05 AM i work full time and go to school full time which is good id be even crazier if i didnt lol
cjacob1120 06-28-2008, 02:09 AM I did have a part time job while in school. Now I am just waiting to finish out my last semester, and then when I move, I'll get a permanent job.
AshleyJ 06-29-2008, 05:14 AM I want to, but I haven't been able to work out a decent childcare situation. I really can't afford to spend loads on daycare and I don't live on post so it really wouldn't work out w/ the free childcare... Then I don't really trust too many people w/ my son. I've left him w/ a few and only one has taken good care of him, which sucks. I was offered a job, but b/c of this I couldn't take it, so I'm hoping that if they don't hire someone in my place within the wk they'll let me have my job back so that I'll have some time to figure something out for my son.
timsgurl1776 06-29-2008, 07:47 AM I am a contract writer so I technically work part time but sometimes it feels like a full time job :). I am also a homemaker which I am very proud to do.
Shaky 06-29-2008, 07:58 AM When dh was deployed these last two times I worked and took classes. On last deployment I had to quit about 3 months before he got home.
navy.baby 06-30-2008, 02:46 PM yeah i'm a full time student, part time babysitter. I'm worried about how i'll be able to manage a career after i get my bachelors and still relocate whenever my soon to be husband needs to move. Has anyone had trouble with this?
