So we experimented today. Semmy was left in our spare room, leaving only a dresser that we don't use and some of his toys. We went over to visit a friend and get a crate, and stopped and got food. We were gone maybe 30 minutes.. an hour max.
We came home and I went to let him out of the spare room we put him in, and he kinda stood there and wouldn't come out. I walked in and found that he had pulled up a corner of the carpet and ate it, and ate some of the paint off the back of the door.
It's small things that I can fix. But it's a hassle.

Now we know that we have to crate him when we leave the house.

He obviously wasn't trained, you'll have a lot of work ahead of you, but it'll be worth it!

My dogs have never chewed anything in my house and they are still crated when we leave :)

The girl said she trained him a few things in the few days she had him. She trains dogs for a living. She did well! But she also never left him home alone. She was always with them because shes a SAHM

Spirit likes to chew on the baseboards when she is bored. Doesnt matter if we are home or not.

A few days doesn't do much though :( Crating him while you're out will keep him and your house safe :teehee

Did you get the dog from a shelter or rescue organization? Or from a breeder?
Because alot of dogs (age doesn't matter) develope anxeity issues just like people when left alone, expecially if they are adopted from a shelter or rescue organization. Best thing to do is to roll up the blinds so the dog can see out of the windows to see where you are going (calms them down) make sure to get bones that they will chew on (relieves stress to chew on something, and you can get mad because they are allowed to chew on it and they are happy because they made you happy) also, leave alot. for short amount of periods, take a walk and then come home. The more the dog is used to you leaving and comming back the safer it feels and the less it will throw fits because you left. Pay attention to them when you are home and play with them relief their excess energy and the calmer they will be and know they are loved.

Crates are not the answer for a dog who suffers from anxiety or seperation issues, that just creates more tension for the dog and prolongs the issue.
