Can we make a post count and membership length requirement before people are able to sell in the classified section? such as 6 months and 500 posts? It may add a tiny bit of protection from scamming.

CoffeeGirl 06-26-2008, 11:25 PM Miss Brandi???:beg FTCWifey 06-26-2008, 11:31 PM That is a pretty good idea. :yes MelissaMc424 06-26-2008, 11:32 PM Great idea!! =Mrs.AiNokeA= 06-26-2008, 11:33 PM I think that's a good idea. I've seen people come on here and their first post is them trying to sell something. They may be legit but I dunno I'd rather it be someone I know has been here awhile. :teehee MomWifeMe 06-26-2008, 11:33 PM Maybe even a star rating.... goodiegurl18 06-26-2008, 11:34 PM can you make the post 250??? :( lol brentscrystal 06-26-2008, 11:35 PM Can we make a post count and membership length requirement before people are able to sell in the classified section? such as 6 months and 500 posts? Green~Mammy 06-26-2008, 11:37 PM Maybe even a star rating.... vbulletin HAS a hack that is a feedback scale. so that if you buy form someone you can leave feedback on the purchases and the seller can leave feed back as well. If a mod is needed JUST for that purpose of making sure there is no retaliatory feed back left and to investigate scamming or anything like that I would be willing to help out. It might come in handy since we are adding a work at home section to the classified area as well. sandykay 06-26-2008, 11:37 PM I think it's a good idea rosebud* 06-26-2008, 11:37 PM Sometimes that doesn't even help I know someone scammed by a regular poster ( well not anymore) sometimes people just don't follow thru. Green~Mammy 06-26-2008, 11:39 PM Sometimes that doesn't even help I know someone scammed by a regular poster ( well not anymore) sometimes people just don't follow thru. Believe me I know that is SO true but this may help just a tiny teeny bit. I also understand it is always buyer beware I just thought it may help a little bit. I also know that usually the BIG time scamming happens from long time sellers/members because we tend to trust them more. So maybe my idea does suck :( browneyedbeauty 06-27-2008, 06:52 AM I'd lower it to 250. I think you'd be able to tell by then if someone is raising their count JUST to sell something. That particular mod is for an older version of vbulletin and I don't believe it's been upgraded yet to work with the newer version that we have. In theory, it's a okay idea but honestly I have seen just as much, if not more, flakes from long time members than I have from newer members. So, I'm not really sure if there's ever been a huge need for it. I agree with you about the post count requirement to sell but I do think we need a feedback system so that people can look and see if this or that person has ripped someone off. (feedback systems used correctly DO help prevent scamming) =Mrs.AiNokeA= 06-27-2008, 11:55 AM I agree with you about the post count requirement to sell but I do think we need a feedback system so that people can look and see if this or that person has ripped someone off. (feedback systems used correctly DO help prevent scamming) Yeah now that I think about it old members can be just as bad if not worse which is sad. :no I think a feedback system would be neat that way people can leave comments with their rating so others will know. :dunno rosebud* 06-27-2008, 11:56 AM I do think however this board is not shy about saying so and so scammed them. :lol based on lots of posts. MIKOSWIFEY 06-27-2008, 12:00 PM The min post count would be nice, it's annoying when someone who is only here with 4 posts is advertising their crap. Annoying to me anyway. Brandi 06-27-2008, 12:02 PM I agree with you about the post count requirement to sell but I do think we need a feedback system so that people can look and see if this or that person has ripped someone off. (feedback systems used correctly DO help prevent scamming) Yeah, I agree with a feedback system. The one for vbulletin is iTrader which is a pretty good mod, I just don't know if it's been upgraded yet since this newer version is still so new. I can look into it though, as an option when/if it's been upgraded. I think a good idea (for at least temporarily) is to maybe sticky some feedback threads, that way someone can do a search in that thread for a specific username if they want to do business with a particular person. =Mrs.AiNokeA= 06-27-2008, 12:02 PM I do think however this board is not shy about saying so and so scammed them. :lol based on lots of posts. :lol That is very true! Having the opinions all in one place might help though for those who may have missed the scammed threads. :D Brandi 06-27-2008, 12:05 PM The min post count would be nice, it's annoying when someone who is only here with 4 posts is advertising their crap. Annoying to me anyway. It might be annoying but, sadly, there is more record of older members scamming than newer members. I don't recall any newer members who have flaked, but I can recall quite a few older/established ones. And if the product is legit/good/relevant (like with the military themed bags/goodies) and it doesn't turn into spam (posting many messages, to the point of being obnoxious), I don't really mind when people advertise in the classifieds section. It seems to me that quite a few members here have made use of a lot of the products/services posted. AirForceWife84 06-27-2008, 12:19 PM Although I haven't ever bought anything from the classified section, I think it's a great idea. Especially if I do decide to buy something. So forget the post count time rule but iTrader is great I am very familiar with that and find that when used correctly it works great at keeping the scamming down. As does calling out the people thta are scamming. Brandi 06-27-2008, 07:58 PM You are right Brandi most people won't buy from someone that only has 10 posts. Our software is the "gold" version so most modifications are being brought up to date to work with this version. I know iTrader is a fairly big hack though so I'm not sure how long it would take for them to update it. Hell, it might have already been done, I just need to check back since I haven't checked in a few weeks :lol MomWifeMe 06-28-2008, 08:13 PM The min post count would be nice, it's annoying when someone who is only here with 4 posts is advertising their crap. Pebbles 07-01-2008, 04:39 AM I like the feedback idea :tu Kaymara 07-01-2008, 11:33 AM I kinda dont see a need for it. You buy at your own risk kwim? And as far as feedback goes, if someone DOES get scammed, people on here usually know because they would make a post about it. I just do not see that adding any protection My only suggestion is maybe making a sticky saying you buy and sell at your own risk and the board (Admin and mods) have no liability in that situation. We arent ebay kwim? So honestly I think that as long as people realize that they are buying and selling at their own risk, things might be a bit better. People sometimes get a false sense of security on here because everyone "knows" each other type of thing. But the fact remains that this IS the internet mpicky 07-02-2008, 02:18 PM There could be a sticky thread for feedback or something. |
