1 debit card and I still have the emergency CC that my parents gave me on there account 15 years ago. I still use it for emergency stuff because my XDH screwed my credit so bad I can't really get one in my name yet (though I am working on it). The last time I used it was when my brakes cost $600- half on debit the rest on credit till the next month.

5 but we don't use 2 of them and will be cutting those up and canceling them.

It's a good idea to cut them :yes...but I would suggest not cancelling them, because having available credit really helps your credit score :)

06-27-2008, 01:01 PM
I have a few, but i only use one right now. I have a navy federal, USAA, Old Navy, Khols, and a Star Card. I only use USAA since i can pay it off each month with transfering money from my checking into it, and its the one with the best rate. I do use my store cards if i am coupons or deals for that store.

Loretta
06-27-2008, 01:04 PM
We just have the Star Card. We only use it for DH's work related stuff(uniforms and insignia and whatever else)when he needs it faster than we will be getting paid.

not a single credit card.

If I can't pay for it then and there, I save up for it or don't buy it. Credit cards scare me.

I have a Macy*s Visa. I only have it because I used to work there and that's how you got your employee discount.

Pay it in full every month so eventually DB and I can get a loan for a house (meaning in like 5 years, lol). Yay good credit!

usmc_wifey85
06-27-2008, 02:16 PM

DH has 1 and I have 1. DH carries both in his wallet. His has a *huge* limit on it and we've almost paid it completely off. Mine is emergency only and he holds it otherwise i'd be too tempted to use it.

Between the two of us we have 4. None of them are store cards and only one of them has a balance on it. And two of them are relegated to the safe, we only use them in a serious emergency. The other two (one for each of us) we try not to use often.

06-27-2008, 06:19 PM
We technically have 11... but most are ones we got for a one time purchase because you got a better deal that way. I only have 2 in my wallet... and hubby has none because he can't be trusted with it!!

I have a Macy's card.... zero balance.

I build my credit in "safer" ways (safer meaning... I don't trust myself with a CC just yet)

My parents cosigned a loan for my car.... so I'm building credit that way. :)

TolkienGeek
06-27-2008, 08:11 PM
Just the one I got from the bank, and I pay it off every time. :) I don't use it except for school-related stuff and Internet purchases anyway. I prefer not to buy things if I can't pay for them right away. That way I don't have to stress about it.

That's how we are. We don't buy anything on credit. If I can't afford it then I don't need it. We have quite enough debt from his student loans already. :lol

I chose none. I have an American Express with my name actually on it but it's my corporate card. DH has 1 credit card which he got prior to marriage.

DutchGirl
07-03-2008, 01:17 AM
I have just one for emergencies and big necessities (ex: car repairs, contacts and glasses) that I can't pay in cash. I've carried a balance on it for quite a while, because every time it gets low, something else comes up (usually car repairs). But, I have a great credit score and manage my debt well so it doesn't bother me too much that I carry a balance.

Well, we had three. Paid off two (Thank you God!!!!!! ten grand all paid off!!!!!!!!! can you tell I am happy about it!) and now we have one left to pay off. We keep all of them as it does not look good on your credit to cancel cards. At least that is what I have been told.

We have 25 between the 2 of us. But we're closing 7. We have so many to use them for what the rewards are for that particular card, ie one gets 5% back on gas so that one is only used for gas, one gets 5x rewards points at bookstores so I buy textbooks with that one. It's not bad, per se, to close cards its just that your utilization (percent of your available credit used) is a big part of your credit score. The lower utilization the better. So if you close all your unused cards your utilization is higher even if you don't charge any more dollar wise. Sorry I'm kind of a nerd, I love everything to do with credit. :giggle
