So my little furbaby is on K9 Advantix, but the past few days I'm finding between 2 and 6 ticks on her (yesterday was the record, 6 ticks with one of them partially engorged... GROSS!) I was wondering what you ladies used on your furbabies to keep the nasty 8-legged parasites off of them...

We use Frontline Plus but we also put Summer Guard on our lawn. Summer Guard is supposed to get rid of fleas, ticks, and something else. So far in the year we have lived here Belle has only gotten 2 ticks on her and I check her twice a day.

I would love to be able to do the Lawn treatment, but since I live in an apartment and walk her on a trail... it's kinda out of the question...

Because when you use the drop stuff you aren't supposed to bathe your dogs for at least a week before and not for at least 2 weeks after.....the oils help the medicine spread....
I know there are some shampoos that are supposed to be okay to use with the drops, but I don't think its worth it.

I use Bio-Spot from petsmart ( just moved not vet here yet) it actually works very well!! If the tick is half in it just dies and kind of sits she lets us know when its stuck and we just yank it off and put peroxide on the open wound to keep it from getting infected. O put one tube on her neck and one on her tail because she is a big dog (german shepard) and we dont have a lawn mower so the grass is rather high in the backyard where she goes to the potty and plays at and long grass is what ticks and fleas love. Lucky are neighbor let us borrow his lawn mower :D such as people. But yea, she had atleast 6 on her that I found through-out a couple of days of her going out to the backyard and thats when I decided to get some tick/flea medicinie. Got the Bio-spot and they have never been back since (even with the grass long, we just cut it yesterday) she has been on it for....two weeks now I believe.

I didn't know about the washing your dog affecting the drops... Learn something new every day!

Advantix has been great for my dogs and the ticks are really bad here. Are you making sure you apply is correctly and making sure you're not bathing for a few days before and after applying it?

Hmm.. when you're walking her make sure she's talking walking in tall grass, brush marshy areas etc. and make sure you're using the right size for her weight :D

I have a dog that I HAVE to wash weekly. A few days before and a few days after is fine.
