Anyone ever have a mobile groomer?? There are some here in the area and was thinking of trying them out. Petsmart is getting too expensive.. and my schnauzer needs to be groomed like baaaadddd. she looks yucky.

I hate switching groomers because i am terrified they will screw her up and then i have to live with a crappy cut for 6 weeks. lol... but i can't keep paying 60 bucks+ a pop to get her groomed.I know a local/non petsmart place would be cheaper. and with gas prices rising having some come to my house just seems ( at least for now) more economical.. I just have never used one. :lol so i don't know how it works. apparently they have a tricked out van and they groom in the van. which is cool.

Sadly I don't think I could use one for what I need tho :( I need someone to trim Charlie's dewclaws. We have the peticure and it works wonders on Lola and Bruce but Charlie FREAKS. We've tried trimming but he freaks! He cann't stand him paws touched AT ALL :( Petsmart told us we needed to pay for the vet to do it so they could drug him first.

why not get them removed?? they aren't necessary and it would be way easier on him.

LOL, I see one driving by all the time. One day I will stop and be nosey. I would love to be a spy. He seems to always be on the corner on the weekend.

yup our old babysitter her dog would gnaw on hers all the time to the point of infection, so they removed the one she chewed on and then to avoid it happening again they took the other one too.. I have also seen lots of ads for dogs and they will say dew claws removed.

Yea. Some vets will only do it depending on how attached they are to the dog. Some have full bone attachment like a regular toe and some are just meerly attached by some skin and vessels which makes it much easier to remove.

The lab puppy we're waiting for is dewclawed. Lots of breeders automatically have them removed on labs while the litter is really young.

I am sooo doggy dumb. Probably why me and Shaggy have issues. But he's getting better at least no more crate issues.

Not dumb.. I didn't know they removed them either until I had dogs of my own :)

I WISH my goldendoodle didn't have hers... and my havachon she was only born with 1, which I also wish wasn't there :lol They are a pain to cut the nail on.

I dont even bother. Shaggy is horrible with his paws. The nice ladies at the groomers handle it all for me.

i thought at after a certain point you couldn't remove the dewclaws anymore...

anyway, as far as a mobile grooming...i've never used one, but i've seen adds for them. i think they're pretty neat looking. they have the tub and blow dryer and table for doing the haircut all in the van, and they would come do it at your house, like in your driveway, and be done in no time! to me...it sounds like having something like that done would be more expensive. i mean, this person has to pay for gas, not to mention what it costs to be running her own business. and i hear they're hard to get appointments with too.

just take a road trip to me! :D i'll do her! :lol i (L) doing schnauzers!

I need to have my cat shaved, but he's a huge pain in the ass. I feel bad though because he has bad mats around his butt because his hair is so long. I'm bad with brushing him. :blush

good luck finding a cat groomer. we've had several people in the salon that want us to do their cats, but we don't do cats there. and lots of people have stopped doing them. cats are dangerous to groom. lol

schnauzer cuts are actually pretty easy. provided the dog is being good about it. and they're fun to do!

she is a very good client. all my groomers have told me I think she secretly loves getting groomed. I think next year I may look for a job in a grooming salon ( i know i just thread jacked my own thread lol) to learn how to do more with her.

awesome idea! that's how i got started! (well, aside from shaving buddy down on the living room floor. :giggle) i worked as a bather for almost a year and a half before they taught me how to groom though. in the dog business, you usually have to start off as the lowest of the low. i.e. kennel assistant (meaning poop cleaner-upper lol) then move up.

I want to but I don't want to. My friend had her puppies removed and it was a hellified 3 weeks of infections. They did everything they were supposed to but it kept opening.
They don't really bother him at all other then the length. But I've def been considering it. Plus the cost b/c of his age and size is up there. Around 200 after it's all said and done depending on where we go...
