A friend of mine is starting a business, it's a mobile oil changing service.

He bought a work van, and is going to have people call him and tell him where they work, and while they are at work, he shows up at the parking lot and changes their oil.

He'll also come to your home and do it there..

That way, they don't have to wait at the service station, and they don't have to take time out of their day to drop off their car, no dealing with little kids in the waiting room..

I think it's a great idea.. :grin: What do you think?

There are a few things he has to figure out first though.

When do the people make the appointments? It's going to have to BE appointments because if not, he'd have to keep a supply of every filter available for every kind of car available, not to mention some cars take any kind of oil, some take regular, some synthetic, some synthetic mix. Some take 4 quarts, some 6. He'd have to have access to keys to the vehicle to drive it up on ramps, some place to store the used oil where it meets government regulations. Some parking lots (most apartment complexes) forbid any kind of automotive service being done in their parking lots.

If he's got all this figured out, AWESOME!! What's his number, I'll be his partner cuz that's a for SURE money maker!! lol

I would do it, i hate driving over the hole in the oil change place lol so anything that doesn't make me do that sounds great to me.

I've seen things like this, but mostly it was auto detailing. The people would come and do your car in the parking lot while you were at work.

I think it's a great plan, but I see a potential for problems as many places wouldn't allow the work to be done in their lot, until your friend could demonstrate that it wouldn't look like he was running a service shop in their parking lot. Once he clears that hurdle, however, I see this as something potentially HUGE. he could even set aisde one day a month for X company, then another day for Y company, etc.

Great idea, and I hope it works out for him.

Definitely!!! I hate having to wait around to get it done. It would be wonderful especially if the prices were around the same as normal. If he could do state inspections too I'd be in love lol!
