View Full Version : Potty training advice ladies!! Corenn 06-30-2008, 01:46 AM Ok so as of tomorrow morning i'm going to start potty training Rose...do you have any tips or advice?? anything would be great ladies!! Thanks in advance!!! Loretta 06-30-2008, 01:55 AM Pretty panties! Silky, lacey, whatever. Just beautiful underwear. That was the only thing that worked for six out of ten of my sisters! It's terrific motivation, and she will feel so special when she's been accident free long enough to wear them:yes Corenn 06-30-2008, 02:06 AM That's a great idea!!! It' just she's only 14 almost 15 months..do you think she'll even understand the difference?? Loretta 06-30-2008, 02:07 AM You know, I don't know. Liam was potty training himself at that age(just pee, though, he pooped himself for like a YEAR after that:lol)and I think he would have. I think it really all depends on her interest level. If she's not interested, everything you try will be futile anyway. If she's already showing a lot of interest, I bet it will work. :yes MelissaMc424 06-30-2008, 02:07 AM Take her every 15-30 mins in the beginning and shortly after ANY big drink she has. Pullups for anything but night times are a waste.. My DD made so much progress once we took away all daytime pullups. Make her help clean up any accidents she has.. she can put her dirty clothes in the laundry room, and can help to sop up any liquid mess..Pretty panties are great, and nothing worked better for DD (when she would pee but not poop in the toilet) than taking away all the cool character ones she had and buying her plain ones. (Much easier to bleach).. The thick, cotton Gerber training undies work great when just starting out.. make a HUGE deal about undies and how cool they are.. Some kids reject the potty seat.. mine did.. she wanted a liner for the regular toilet. You can find them at Walmart/Target for around $10 Flushable toddler wipes are a wonderful thing. We swear by the huggies clean team ones. If you're reinforcing handwashing and such, her own special soap and hand towel would be a good idea.. We used printable sticker charts, and smiley face stickers (you can find them at walmart, super cheap) http://www.kidskandoo.com/en_US/content.do Loretta 06-30-2008, 02:09 AM Ooohh, yes, the Kandoo hand soap is a hit with Liam, too. Definitely. His stool matches the toilet seat liner, we got them both at Target, very inexpensive. :yes MelissaMc424 06-30-2008, 02:10 AM That's a great idea!!! It' just she's only 14 almost 15 months..do you think she'll even understand the difference?? At that age, be extra patient.. she may lose interest in the potty. My DD was all about following me, wanted to sit on the toilet and even peed in it a few times, but then went right back to not caring.. We introduced the potty at 18months, but put off fully training her until 2 1/2 because of our PCS. HuskerFan 06-30-2008, 02:11 AM The best advice I recieved was once you put panties on her, do NOT put another diaper on her (unless its naptime or bedtime). My DD wet herself once, and decided that was not how she wanted to be, and has been daytime-accident-free for 3 months. Flushable wipes are great, I buy the parents choice ones. Corenn 06-30-2008, 02:15 AM Ladies i realy appreciate the advice!!! Rose is showing some interest!!! She tells me when she has to go or when she gone (only by pointing and saying that though) she still doesn't talk much!! we got her her little potty today the top comes off also so it can go on the big toliet..and she loves it!!! tomorrow is day 1 so we'll see how it goes!!! i'm going to try having pull ups on her tomorrow...and then i'll go out and buy those training undies!! (didn't know about those..so thanks so much Melissa) i'll report tomorrow on how it goes!! MelissaMc424 06-30-2008, 02:19 AM Here's what the gerber pants look like: http://www.lullabylane.com/shopping/search/searchresultsmain.jsp?fresh=1&searchType=advanced&iMainCat=0&iSubCat=0&attribute14=0&attribute15=0&attribute16=0&RS=1&keyword=GIRL'S+COTTON+TRAINING+PANTS+3+PACK They're over near the baby socks/onesies.. I've seen them as small as size 18 months.. Steph* 06-30-2008, 02:21 AM We started today with Zoe! She's been telling us when she needs to go potty with her signing and flushing the toliet on her own so we thought we'd give it a try. So far today she did two pees and a poo in there! We're just going off of when she tells us, I think so far so good! Corenn 06-30-2008, 02:26 AM We started today with Zoe! She's been telling us when she needs to go potty with her signing and flushing the toliet on her own so we thought we'd give it a try. So far today she did two pees and a poo in there! We're just going off of when she tells us, I think so far so good! That's awesome!!! i wish Rose was more vocal but i'll give it a try and hope she gets the hang of it and starts to tell me when she needs to go!!! Jill 06-30-2008, 09:12 AM We never used pull-ups. Went straight into underwear (boys dont wear panties, I learn that from my husband!!:lmao) and after 2 weeks of noticing him being dry at night we went from diaper to underwear as well. Have patience and get really excited when they do use the potty. Trent loved calling his grandmas to tell them that he pooped in the potty!! ~Christina~ 06-30-2008, 10:02 AM alot of praise works wonders....i almost cried the first time DD did it herself in the potty....i made sure she saw how happy i was that she did and proud of her...so everytime she got off the potty she would be like :yay i pee pee'd in the potty...even if she didn't really go...we also didn't use panties at all in the house...she went around in the nude...and it seemed to help for some reason...we also got the elmo potty time DVD and she liked imitating elmo so since elmo did it...she wanted to do it too... also everytime you have to go...take her too...so she can see you doing it too and understand...also my DD is big on her indepence so letting her do alot of it herself was a help as well...like flushing the toilet...and washing her hands by herself..really made her feel like a big girl..and that was pretty much our toilet training in a nut shell.. Corenn 06-30-2008, 02:29 PM Thanks so much for all the tips ladies!!! JoyS 06-30-2008, 03:10 PM Zach is also potty training. His big thing is his sticker chart. He LOVES getting stickers everytime he goes potty. When he fills up a row (or two or three) he gets a special present just for him. He loves it. The first two days he had accidents but then yesterday he did fantastic with no accidents. Good luck. JoyS 06-30-2008, 03:13 PM Also, be very patient and understanding with her. We always show how happy we are with him when he goes but never get mad at him if he has an accident. He does have to help clean it up and we tell him that he is a big boy and needs to go in the potty not his underwear (we also don't use pullups unless he is sleeping). Although he finds it to be the funniest thing on the face of the earth if he accidentally pees on daddy or mommy (we are teaching him to sit first) and he sits there literally rolling while still on the toilet going "gotch you mommy/daddy". Boys! Bryanna 06-30-2008, 03:14 PM I was potty trained in DAYS when my mom told me I could only have those "pitty pink ruffle undies" if I was. Katrina628 06-30-2008, 03:28 PM That's a great idea!!! It' just she's only 14 almost 15 months..do you think she'll even understand the difference?? I have 3 1/2 yr old and a 16 month daughters. My 3 yr old just got completely potty trained a few months ago. I haven't even starting trying with my 16 month yet. She is to little to understand. I tried when my oldest was that age and she just wasn't ready. When you start trying you will be able to tell if she is ready or not. It's JMO, but I think 15 months is to young. She won't really understand the whole pretty undies things. Good luck anyway! Corenn 06-30-2008, 04:05 PM Ok so i've tried a few time and i'm thikning she's to young to understand...she sat on the potty for 15 minutes and then wanted to get up so i put her undie (pull-ups) on and she went in there...I'm going to keep trying the rest of the day..but i think she's to little still..and really has no interest!! |
