Ca*Girl 06-30-2008, 09:35 AM I am SO frusterated!!! We have NO money and rent is coming up on the first and I HATE how the BAH is split between the 2 paychecks that makes no FREAKING SENSE.... I am trying to find a job to help DH with the bills but NC is a shitty place to find a job I also want to go back to school but again NO FREAKING MONEY we have seriously enough food for dinner tonight thats it!! We have bills to pay still after rent AND we can't get a loan anywhere! We are going to have everything turn off this is so stressing me out that I am litterly sick to my stomach!!!!! I hate this I want a Job or a loan or grant. I cannot live with out internet or my cell phone how am i supposed to keep in touch with my family in Ca.... This sucks! ANY ideas or advice would be awesome thanks!
FutureAirmansWif 06-30-2008, 09:40 AM is there a way you could talk to your landlord and ask if you could split the rent between now and the 15th? The worse that could happen is you're penalized a late fee, which from what I know, is really no more than $10 or $15. At least that would give you a chance to take some of that money and pay some bills and buy groceries.
Most landlords I know of, as long as you explain the situation to them and if you've always pretty much been on time with your rent won't think twice about giving you an opporutnity. It's better for them in the long run, because they've shown you compassion.
I feel your pain on trying to find a job in NC... I lived there for 6 months and I couldn't find a job anywhere :(
Keeping you in my thoughts and sending you good vibes.
amazinggrace 06-30-2008, 09:41 AM I know this sucks but I would check McDonalds, Wal-Mart where ever if you are that low on cash right now you just need money to pay the bills. I'm sorry it's so hard for you. :hugs

it never hurts to try hun. the worst they can do is say no, but prepare for the worst and expect the best. depending on where you live, some landlords understand how the military works and they'd cut you a break.
DakotaCowgirl 06-30-2008, 10:10 AM What might help is when you get the pay check, write 1/2 in for rent. That way you don't spend it. We always would have 1/2 in before hand so we were always over.
Talk with your landlord and see if they will accept it on the 1st. You'll still have it on time but it will be as of that day.
autumnh 06-30-2008, 10:14 AM You could try applying for a waitress position..so you'd have your tips at the end of the night.
Goodluck, I know jobs are few and far between. :no Everything will work out :hugs
rosebud* 06-30-2008, 10:27 AM You can put an allotment with the rent amount into a different account and then it will be in one lump sum. For instance open a savings account within the same bank then go into mypay and put an allotment with the rent amount into that savings account, then it will come in on the first of the month every month. hth
Mrs.Highfill 06-30-2008, 10:35 AM I have applied everywhere!
What kind of Job do you want? What do you have experience at?
Ellen 06-30-2008, 10:49 AM I recommend your husband set up a monthly allotment to a separate bank account for your rent. It will be sent on the first paycheck of the month. That way you don't have to budget thru two paychecks to make the rent. The rent money will always be there. Then you can use the remaining amount in your paycheck for whatever other bills you have.
Mrs.Highfill 06-30-2008, 10:54 AM You are going to have to cut down on going out. This month add up EVERYTHING you buy. See how much money you spend on eating out, groceries, gas, walmart trips, ect.
Once you have seen on paper how much money you spend you will realize how much money you waste. We do not eat out, we stay as far away from walmart as possible, shop and the Commissary, and make a meal plan. For my husband and I it costs less than $100 to feed both of us 3 meals a day for 2 weeks!! Try using www.expensr.com to help show you how much money you spend on needless things each month.
goldilockz 06-30-2008, 10:57 AM I recommend a financial management class. They are usually offered free on base.
mitziebella 06-30-2008, 11:27 AM I think that you guys need to sit down and make a budget. Stop spending money on things you don't need. Get the basic for everything when it comes to cable and cell phones (if you absolutly need it). Set an allotment for your BAH to go into a seperate account so you don't touch it at all.
I work a part-time job that barely pays me anything, but they are willing to work with me with the hours i want and if i need to bring my girls they let it happen.
I know in the beginning it seems impossible to find a job, but you just have to keep doing follow-ups with the places you have applied. It will make you stand out if your proactive and hopefully land you a job.
Goodluck!!

Those late fees, depending her lease, could be upwards of $50 PER DAY that the rent is late. It sucks but as we've had to tell DH's brother, they're in business to make money, not to let you live there and just pay whenever.
OP, you need to make a budget.. plain and simple. Are you Army or Marines? Army Emergency Relief, or Navy Marine Corps Relief society can help.. but in order to get the help, a lot of times you will be required to take a budgeting class. Could you look into military housing as an option??
If he falls too far behind on bills, his command can be notified, and they WILL take money directly from your pay, before you see it.
We have been broke before (when we were first married).. my DH took on a second job, because he refused to have me pay for "his" debt. When you need the money, no burger flipping/cashier job is worth turning down. He worked at Toys R Us in the bike dept. for a few months, just to make sure we ate..
Shop the commissary.. stock up on ramen noodles, cheapo mac n cheese and ground beef/turkey. You'd be surprised the things you can come up with with those staples and some cream soups and cans of tomato sauce. PB&J sandwiches are lifesavers too..

HOLY BEGEEZUS!! I had no idea they could go that high!
CoffeeGirl 06-30-2008, 06:52 PM try craigslist for a job:yes

this is how our pay is we have a set allotment for bah. and it comes out on the 1st all of it
mrsjones0520 06-30-2008, 07:02 PM I'm not trying to be mean or anything(please don't take it that way!) but if you gus can't afford to pay your rent or bills why are you living off the base?? Granted some post housing sucks, but then at least you don't have to pay rent or utilities. And be surethat his command can and will order him to move onto the post if paying your rent becomes an issue. Definately budget and cut out everything that's not a necessity! Also, try applying for jobs on the base-even if it's something sucky it'll help. I know alot of guys that worked part time at the commissary bagging groceries to help pay their bills. In the short term though-do you have any family or anything that you can ask for help??? I hate doing that, but you have about 72 hours to come up with money for bills and food, and if your family can help I'm sure they will. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!
chely7425 07-01-2008, 06:30 PM A lot of times there are wait lists for on post housing... at least on army posts and the wait times can be up to a year!! I am with everyone else about the allotment for rent, we do it for all our major bills so that we have all that money at once.
monkeyinabarrel 07-12-2008, 11:40 AM :hug i am sorry you are stressed out. not having money sucks. the ladies have given good advice. i hope it works out
