My cat is 10 months old and up until recently has never had a problem using the litterbox. Now he almost always goes to the bathroom in the bathtub. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get him to stop?

I'd take him in, he could have a UTI... That's a symptom.

Is the litter box clean? There could be a few things on WHY he is doing this

1 is a dirty litter box. This will sometimes make a cat go outside the box. Cats are clean animals and refuse to go in a dirty box

2 he could be just spraying unless you physically saw him doing it.

2 is the fact you are pregnant. He can sense the change within you and this could be his way of dealing

3 is an infection of some sort whether it be urinary or what not. Make a vet appointment to be on the safe side

Cats rarely just quit using litter boxes so there is usually a reason behind it. I would suggest to first make a vet appt to rule out anything medical. If nothing medical then make sure the litter box hasnt been moved, is clean, has enough litter, big enough for him etc. If not neutered get him neutered as this can help with spraying

Definitely agreed. Especially #2 if the kitty isn't neutered.

well I had just cleaned his litterbox and there was asolutely nothing in it when he pooped in the tub. I didn't know that cats were that sensitive, i guess it might be the pregnancy but I'll go ahead and call his vet and set up an appointment to see if it might be something he can't control.

Definatly make an appointment. But remember they ARE that sensitive and he most definatly senses your pregnancy and the changes within you.

Did you change his litter by chance do a different kind?

well we recently got a new kitten and we decided since we have two cats now to switch to a multiple cat formula

Yeah, when they STOP using te ltterbox always take them in.

I didn't take my old cat in - she kept using the bathroom all over the house all of a sudden and I just tossed her out of te house for a few days (she was indoor/outdoor) and she ended up dying. Apparently she was sick and that was a sign and I just thought she was being difficult - so out she went until I could clean it all up and deodorize. :tears
I've never forgiven myself for that.

Don't make that mistake.

I would also consider getting 2 kitty boxes. Some cats don't like to share boxes or you could try switching back to his old litter. My 9 yr old cat will toss pawfuls of litter out of the box if I change his litter brand.

:yes

The new kitty's waste may be seen as an invasion by your old kitty - rather than put up with sharing the territory (box) he is choosing a new area to have as his own. Supplying a second box (preferably in a separate location) will often fix this issue.

those are all good ideas but seriously take the cat to the vet ASAP. my kitty sprayed a bit after neutering but i think it was because he was just delusional. he did it a few times but hasn't done it since. only one time did they poop outside the litter box and it was like right beside it so i think they just missed the target. :rofl it was gross though.

that's what my mother suggested. She has 4 cats and 3 cat boxes.

The other advantage of having multiple boxes in separate locations is that it is not unheard of for one cat to assert dominance by "claiming" the litterbox. They will take up post in a location that allows them to keep the other cat from getting to the litter box - which results in the other kitty having to go somewhere else. Often times, in a multi-cat household, the people don't catch on to what is going on and the kitty being blocked from the box is the one that gets punished, labeled as a bad cat or re-homed for being "un-trainable" and it isn't even that kitty that is the problem.
