View Full Version : Who lives on post?
SIMMYBABEZ 07-02-2008, 01:30 AM We live off post, and our lease is ending well.. very soon but I'm starting to think that perhaps living on post would be better for us until dh deploys.
Um so who lives on post? And do you like it? What do you like about it? And is it better than living off post?
If you live on post, and hate it- tell me why please!
Also....... what utilities are included? If any?
I went to one stop, but I couldn't find the utility page :blush
rosebud* 07-02-2008, 01:33 AM we always do except here because there isn't one. they pay for everything except the extras like phone, cable, internet. but they pay, water, gas, electric garbage all that. I liked it because everyone was in my similar situation and i made good friends there. I have no strong feelings living on or off post, everyones situation is different and some like living there some don't.
Steph* 07-02-2008, 01:35 AM We are BUT only because we're making a grand a month off of BAH. :lol
Steph* 07-02-2008, 01:36 AM I do like it here though. Friendly neighbors, close to the MCX and commissary. We have the beach that's no more than a 5 minute walk away etc.

:yes other than the few and far between dramatic neighbors, I have LOVED living in housing.
SIMMYBABEZ 07-02-2008, 02:02 AM Yeah, one of the reasons I want to live on post is because of the community. I've met no-one in my complex.. everyone keeps to themselves and I'm kinda going crazy having no next door neighbours driving me bonkers.
DakotaCowgirl 07-02-2008, 02:50 AM I live in housing. Don't know if it is any different AF wise but, we keep to ourselves, don't pay bills except phone, dish, ect. We like it because we can keep a house to ourselves and if anything goes wrong, someone fixes it. Plus, most of the time, you get good neighbors and you just work around both your schedule. I like that we are close to work and the commy.
All places have their good and bad issues. Moving out is a big issue I have. I hate how picky they are. You are also military 24/7 due to you never leave the base sometimes. You also have some limitations to what you can do in your own lives. It is all what you make it.
Jennifer 07-02-2008, 03:00 AM We live on post. It's convenient because of maintenance, how close everything is(I can just walk everywhere!), having neighbors who are all military, etx
Kaymara 07-02-2008, 09:42 AM I live on a marine base. I LOVE living on base. I feel safer, I can walk EVERYWHERE. Commisarry, MCX, Dr, post office, mcdonalds, mini-mart, etc. I like the convienece of it.
Utilities in our housing that are included is gas and electirc, water and trash.
torie. 07-02-2008, 09:47 AM We live on post but they shoved us in temporary house far away from the main housing area. If we lived in the main housing, it'd be awesome. Everything is in walking distance, the military community is great to live in when you're overseas due to safety and culture familiarities, and everything is very well kept of course!

I lived on post in Germany, but dh didn't have enough time left in the tour to get me command sponsered so I lived in BEQs with him. They went out of their way to let that happen, but beqs are tiny so it sucked.
How come you are allowed to live with him in temp housing if you're not married? Seems like you got a better deal than I did!
ilovekale 07-02-2008, 02:54 PM we don't currently live on-base...but we did initially when we first got married. all utilities were included and it was decent. when i say decent, i mean barely liveable. lol.
LindsayLin 07-02-2008, 03:16 PM We don't live on post now, (we're actually not even near a post), and I find that I am enjoying the break.
Our neighbors at our last post sucked. I feel like I have a lot more privacy off post, and I like having a more diverse set of neighbors.
Depending on where we go next we'll most likely buy a house.
GrayGal07 07-02-2008, 09:46 PM We never live on post. Now we are stationed at a Navy base - DH is Army - and we live about 5 minutes out the back gate, it's only about a 5-7 minute drive to work for DH. We love our house and the neighborhood we're in. I doubt we'll ever live on post unless we go OCONUS.
Sarah 07-02-2008, 10:45 PM We live on a Marine Base and we really like it. I love how the kids go to school on base, and everything is so convenient. Plus, we are only 10 mins from our jobs here on base, so we aren't using a lot of gas, which is really nice. Also, I feel a lot safer being on base as well. The only downside is that our house is the smallest one we have ever lived in, but it's cozy, nice and it's home.
Sonyador 07-02-2008, 10:49 PM all the basic utilities are paid for..
heat water electric.. stuff
and it depends on WHERE on post you live if its a good area.
We're getting ready to move on post as soon as we get married and get on the list. I'm so excited!
butterflykiss 07-03-2008, 03:21 AM I live in Hawaii so it's better for us to live in military housing. But I love it. Housing here is nice. Don't have to take care of any extra bills. I'm busy enough with 3 kids so less stress to think about and take care of is better for me lol. And they take care of our yard except our back yard, so less naggy from me to husband hehe
Rain. 07-03-2008, 03:34 AM We have lived on post since we moved to GA in 2004.
I actually like it. I feel safe w/ him deployed. I don't panic over every little noise & think someone is coming in to rob and murder me.
We currently don't pay any utilities just our luxuries. Cable & phone. Stuff like that.
We are doing mock billing right now though, they monitored all the houses last yr and now are sending out bills to show what you are using. So far the most I've ever been over the alloted is 45$
