Anyone know anything about this area? My husband was offered a job there and we are trying to decide to accept or not. I looked into the hospital there and they are actualy more up to date than the one I'm at now. They also have a VA clinic in the area. Looks like their school system has decent ratings, and housing market seems good. Just wondering if anyone has been to or lived in the area? Anything I need to know? We're going to try to go check it out and look at homes and all that sometime this week.
TIA
My understanding of the area is:
It's like a suburb that got planted int eh middle of nowhere. that can be good and bad. Health-care whise, it's similar to what you'd find in any big city or suburb. Cost-of-living wise, it's probably a bit lower than average, meaning your dollar can stretch farther than you expect.
I'd check into the job itself and see if it's something that may be affecterd by the economy. That is, if it's at a saturn plant, that's probalby pretty good, but if it's doing R&D for a new company that is homebased in Bhopal (India), that might not be so good.
I think FedEx is homebased im Memphis; if it's something associated with that (or even indirectly connected to that), it might be a pretty good prospect.
Good luck!

I haven't been over to that part of TN. I love living in Nashville. Tennesee has no state income tax so the sales tax around 9%.

Johnson City is a city that still feels like a small town. The people are wonderful, crime rate isn't so bad compared to most places and you have basically everything you need. I have had great experiences at the VA and Johnson City Medical Center. I had a friend that taught in the school system and everything she has said was very positive. When we retire and get the heck out of Fort Campbell it's where I plan on going! Good luck!
