View Full Version : 2 full time jobs? Anyone?
LovinHerSailor 07-07-2008, 05:39 PM Okay i'm moving to texas, and I have about a month to get back on my feet. My car is 3 months behind, and they are hounding the hell outta me. Well I was thinking I would work a retail job for nights and maybe at mcds during the day or the other way around...both full time to get about 2 grand coming in a month so i can pay some of this shit off....anyone ever done this before?
Perhaps look for ONE job that takes in 2k/month?
LovinHerSailor 07-07-2008, 05:44 PM haha, i wish i could find one job that would pull in 2 k a month....i'm fresh outta college...not happening...if only they didn't look at me as a little 22 year old kid
Jillove27 07-07-2008, 05:47 PM Yup worked two jobs most of my life, it is not fun! I took in more than 2K though. I worked at Starbucks full time then See's candy part time. I took in about 3K+ it was nice, but killed the hell out of me. It is a nice way to get caught up on any bills you might have and save a little to change your spending habits so you won't get behind again.
rosebud* 07-07-2008, 05:47 PM It will probably be really rough on you and you might not make it. I worked 2 part time jobs before with kids and I was just about dead after 3 months I wound up having to quit one because i was just exhausted
sheryl_ 07-07-2008, 09:47 PM You can always try getting an office job? and work nights and weekends elsewhere.
But, it definitely is hard whatever two jobs you end up working. Good luck!

Really? At my first job after college I was bringing in $1500/mth after taxes (and it was low paying for a college grad). I'd you add a p/t job on top of that, $2k easily. What's your degree in? What experience do you have?
From my experience of working 60-80 hr/wk at 2 jobs during the summers while I was in college. It sucks. Your quality of life is hell.

Rainbow Brite 07-07-2008, 10:04 PM I worked at a hotel as an auditor as my day job, and at a gas station for my night job. I just made sure that I had the same days off at both jobs so I had time to catch up on my sleep, and you HAVE to eat well. Also, try to limit your caffeine intake. It'll keep you awake, but the detrimental health effects sucks. Also make sure you get exercise.

I think this is a good idea. Also, fresh out of college I made at least $1,800 a month so don't sell yourself short.
LovinHerSailor 07-08-2008, 05:27 PM I'm not selling myself short as much as i'm being realistic....I'm moving to a really small town in the bible belt, Abilene, TX. Minimum wage here is still 5.50....I currently only make 8.50 an hour here in tennessee, so I know I'm going to take a pay cut...
fridayheather 07-09-2008, 09:21 AM During the couple of years I was single between my X and my DH, I worked 2 jobs, one full time and one *almost* full time. I was a school bus driver during the day (the full time) and at night from 5 til 11 I drove truck for an office supplies place. Also during school holidays from bus driving, I would either drive seasonal work for the US Mail or I would work extra hours at my night job. So, yeah, it can be done, it's just exhausting :lol
And I was a student at the local community college but most of my classes were online.
Amberly 07-09-2008, 09:39 AM I'd suggest getting a serving job. For the most part if I am behind on my bills I just pick one up. Most places you work you'll make at least 80 bucks a night plus whatever your hourly pay is...it can suck at times but the easiest way I've found to make extra cash. My last job I cocktailed and that's a pretty decent job if you don't mind the occasional jerk with grabby hands.
Potatocup 07-09-2008, 10:58 AM You can't get a graphic artist or desktop publisher job? Maybe it is something you can do remotely for a larger company in a nearby city (I don't know what is close to Abilene). I would be looking for a career type job instead of focusing on the temp gigs. Go to a temp agency and get an office job while you apply for graphic artist jobs.
LovinHerSailor 07-11-2008, 02:54 AM Abilene is tiny. The biggest cities are both three hours away, Dallas and San Antonio. I've looked into Graphic Design jobs in Abilene nothing has come up tho. I'm mostly looking into retail management right now because i like to help people and move around. Idk right now, we'll see when I get into abilene.

yah me too im still in college and take home 1500 after a huge pay cut when i went from office work to being a nanny but i chose to take the cut to focus on school...mayeb its the area?
Shaky 07-11-2008, 03:01 AM I used to work two jobs, Front Desk in a Hotel and a restaurant at nights. It was tough, A 5 hrs night sleep was actually a good night but you have to do what you have to do to provide money.
I think doing a waitressing type of job at night might be a good idea that way you'll get cash right away (after you finish training)

i think you are selling yourself short. look for a job in your field and work weekends in the service industry. i think you will be surprised by the # of opportunities you can find for yourself in a small town. a lot of local shops may need web site help, and there is at least one sign company or something like that that would love a recent grad that is up on all the new technology. if you don't get a job in your field, then you won't ever have the opp. to make more and only work one job.
i made 4000 take home a month right out of school. mostly because i knew the comp. program the company was using, and they didn't
rosebud* 07-12-2008, 12:33 PM I don't think her issue is lack of ability to get a job, but lack of jobs to utilize her talents where she will be living. Abilene is a really small town, there aren't many jobs that require her experience there.
So i think that is the issue she is facing

well said. I've never had a problem getting a job. it's just the lack of jobs in my career field. And since abilene is such a small town it's just small and graphic designers aren't really in demand there. I don't mind doing retail tho..
USNIwife 07-12-2008, 10:16 PM I worked 2/3 jobs to put myself through college years back, on my own by myself. If I can do it, you can do it. Like Jill said tho, it most certainly is NOT fun and gets tiring, but honestly at one point your overtired and it's systematic. kwim?!
rcwant2be 07-12-2008, 10:20 PM i think you're selling yourself short too. i didn't realize abilene was that small.
anyways, have you looked into telecommuting? maybe you could get a job with a firm in the closest large city & do all your work online, ya know? it's becoming more & more popular. since what you're doing is already computer/web based, it seems perfect.
Sailors♥Sweetie. 07-12-2008, 10:35 PM try findin a job as a data entry clerk or receptionist?? they make good money well not great money but im sure youll bring in 2k or pretty close
