Has anyone ever made their own?
I have 3 recipes for such items that will dry and can be sculpted/painted and I don't know which one to use or if it matters, will they all be the same in the end?

I have a styrofoam jewelry display bust that I made and I'd like to use it in my photos with my pieces (I've spent enough money on my jewelry making hobby as it is - I don't want to spend another penny).
I've paper-mache'd it with modge podge/TP and hated it - it looked homemade and the color of the styro came through (green)
So I covered it with fabric - that looked crappy.
And then I peeled all that off and sprayed it with a grey textured paint - hated that, too.

So I think i'll just cake it with a plaster of some type and then maybe paint it.

I'd like it to look chalky white (no shine) and like it was carved (kind of like a greek-statue type deal). So which recipe to use?

Recipe 1:
Modeling Clay

1 c. cornstarch
1 and 1/2 c. water
16 ounces baking soda

Combine cornstarch and baking soda together in large saucepan. Stir in water and cook over low heat until the mixture becomes thick and forms a ball. Remove from heat and cool. Knead the dough on a countertop dusted with cornstarch until smooth

Recipe 2:
Air Dry Clay

3 c. flour
1 c. salt
1/2 c. white glue
1 c. water
1 tsp. lemon juice

Mix together until well blended. Mold into shapes or roll out and cut with cookie cutters. Let dry overnight before painting

Recipe 3:
Basic flour plaster

1 cup flour
mixed with enough warm water to make a thick paste.

I am thinking the air dry clay would possibly give you your look.

If not then #3.

What about making it up and trying it before y ou put it on your bust?

Yeah, that's the smartest idea :yes
I'll just start at the tope of the list and work my way down :) I'll cover some styro cones - stil can be used in displays for photos.
