I love sewing and my machine. Brother and singer are good starter machines. You can usually pic up a good cheap one from Wal-mart. I find it very easy, but then I have been sewing since I was 9. My MIL just started sewing 2 years ago and love it. She is quite good too. If you love crafty things, you should be ok, just try and keep a straight line. Play around with the machine before you start doing projects, it'll help.

No they really aren't hard to use. I have a brother, my old one is a singer and my embroidery machine is a singer. I say for starters go with a singer or a brother. My brother is from 05, but it is a cs-8060. Has a few decorative stitches, does button holes and so on. You can use a presser foot or let it run automatically.

Hey that is a good idea. If you have local fabric store or sewing machine repair places they usually offer beg. classes also. I know Joann Fabrics does.

everyone says the base is like high school with how much drama there is. I hate drama...
Pretty much all they do is drink and talk shit about you. (airmen can drink at 18 that way they don't go to mexico to drink)

I haven't been to Del Rio in the military, but it was ok little town. We stayed there on our way out to Big Bend National park. If you get the chance to go there go.
They have a Roxxi's (says crafts and fabrics), not sure what it is, but maybe they will have classes, who knows.
Nope it is easy to use, I have a Singer that I LOVE. I would defiantly sp? have a person who knows how to show you tricks for little things like closing up pillows or like I needed help with cutting a straight line
