I thought waitressing was relatively easy to get into.
NOT!!!
I have contacted 10 different places and I'm either unexperienced or they're not hiring. (Which I'm beginning to think just means "We hate you".)

yeah i have had the same problems, alot of places want you to have expierence ie. working as a hostess first kwim. but what my best friend did was apply as a hostess and they gave her the option to take the servers test so maybe apply as a hostess first and ask if theres a chance to take the servers test.

Most of the time you have to start as a hostess. That's what they told me when I tried applying at varoius places

yeah waitress jobs are PITAs to get into because they usually want experience. My BFF got into bartending by working at a Beer and wine joint, then she was able to get another bartender job at a private type club mainly just beer and easy drinks.

:lol they don't hate you! :) but I know what you mean! I started as a hostess cause I wanted to be a waitress many years ago and they never gave me the chance once I was in so I quited and applied for a new Chili's they were opening up and they trained me as a bartender.
Honestly, if you apply for a waitress and start as a hostess they will leave you there for a loooong time. I saw it happening way too many times in my many years working at Chili's
If they don't want to hire you as a waitress then keep looking somewhere else that will give you the opportunity. You could star in a smaller restaurant maybe :dunno

I mean I'll take any job just to get my foot in the door.

Serving jobs are tricky if you are going for big chains. I usually serve at resorts...they are easier to get your foot in the door and then you can move around to different places.

i hate to say but i just lied about helping out with a restuarant before just so i could get a job. the first chain i worked for was Pizza Hut and they take almost anyone. I made killer tips too....I was the only waitress taking home at least $150 a night, even on buffet night.

Don't give up. Serving is good money. Maybe you could start at a family-run place. Or just try some run of the mill places. Some smaller joints are more apt to hire unexperienced people. Even the rinky-dink places can pay out with big money tips.

I had the same problems.
I started off as a hostess at both of the restaurants I worked at and got promoted :D Plus you have to be 19 to serve in Ohio.
