I bought myself a yard stick...it is thicker(higher) than a regular ruler and I use that to guide me. It helps a lot!

I do iron the fabric if it has a lot of creases in them...and I iron the front of the quilt before I put it all together. ETA...I iron the front after that is all put together and just before I attach the middle and back.

Hey, they want your to iron the seams open most likely, I think in the end it is suppose to give you a cleaner flat look, you know when you start sewing together a bunch of triangles or stars if you don't have the seams all going the same way things could get lumpy.

I have never used the spray stuff, but I know people who swear by it.

Have fun!
