View Full Version : Slow loading times?
Chevy_Gurl 07-10-2008, 06:27 PM Is the site undergoing maintenance again?
For the past 3 days the sites taking anywhere from 10 minutes to 35 minutes to load a single page.

Brandi 07-10-2008, 06:47 PM I was working on it earlier this afternoon b/c I had noticed the slowness over the last couple of days, as well. I'll contact my host and have them make some adjustments to see if they can get the load times back down for us.
Purpur 07-10-2008, 07:36 PM Brandi....have you thought about deleting some of the old board members who haven't been around in a long time/never posted? Would that free up some space on the server?

No, it's not a space issue. The member accounts don't have anything to do with slow load times. More than anything, it's the "refresh" and "new posts" plus the searching. It's a resource issue which unfortunately doesn't have anything to do with the space we have. We have a ridiculous amount of empty storage/space and we SHOULD have enough resources on this server, but for some reason no one can pinpoint what exactly the problem is, even after a MAJOR upgrade that we just had. :sigh
Short of completely reinstalling our software from scratch without any modifications at all (including our custom skin and such), I am at a loss for what to do. Even the "Experts" don't know why this is happening, which obviously isn't very comforting to me. :no
Debra 07-10-2008, 07:55 PM Why not go ahead & remove the new posts function & custom skins? Would that help any? Yes it makes it more "customized" to our liking but really, we all would survive without them!
Sailors♥Sweetie. 07-10-2008, 07:55 PM it always happens to me to and its not cool!!!
Purpur 07-10-2008, 07:59 PM At $500 a month, I wouldn't be happy either! I get that this is a huge forum, but when you pay that much for something, I'd want something better than "I dunno."
I'd be contemplating taking my business elsewhere....:dunno

Well, what's probably going to end up happening is I"m going to do a trial run of completely wiping the board clean of everything (new posts and searches will still be there but all other customizations will be temporarily removed) so that I can start pin pointing what EXACTLY is causing the issue.
It's just frustrating when I have experts looking at this who do it for a living and even they tell me they don't have a clue what is wrong.... just that SOMETHING is definitely wrong. :sigh

Well, I've had outside sources look at the site and server also, and they've pretty much said it's not a server or host issue... it's something on this site that is bugged or not doing something properly, which is causing a "bottleneck" of sorts. When it bottlenecks, it basically just craps out until I restart the entire server. If I'm not online and don't catch it when it happens, then it can basically bottleneck for up to an hour or whenever the load goes down enough to make the site accessible again.
My hosts haven't been able to help me much but then neither have my outside resources who I've hired to help me troubleshoot. Literally, no one has a clue what is wrong.
So, that brings me back to needing to completely wipe everything out and start from scratch. We won't lose any posts or anything like that but it's going to be a massive task to take on. :sigh
Purpur 07-10-2008, 08:04 PM Oy! Sounds like a serious PITA! bummer!

Yeah, it is, but I can't take this much longer and will be needing to shut the boards down for a few hours probably sometime this week to get it taken care of. I just can't handle this anymore :sick
