View Full Version : San Diego Murphy Canyon
Donna 07-11-2008, 01:30 AM I just got done talking to one of the mom's of Gabe's friends. Her son and Gabe were playing at the park to the side of my house on Tues. Her son cut his leg on the swing. Not bad, so she just cleaned it up and he went to bed. He woke up Wed morning with a fever of 104.8, so they rushed him to the ER. Within hours he was in surgery at Balboa. He got a MRSA infection from the swing. They then had to take him back into surgery this morning, because the margins of the tissue they removed werent clear (meaning they didnt get all of it.)
I just wanted to make sure you ladies knew this!!!
mrspollak 07-11-2008, 01:41 AM omg im gunna have to tell my friend to keep her son off of it!!

I dont know...I know the dad went to the housing office with a copy of his medical records. I just know that I have been telling my neighbors about it. The parks are completely off limits to my kids now even with it being cleaned.

MRSA will be reported to Infection Control and Preventive Medicine, and they'll work with the Navy and the Public Health Department to find the source and get it cleaned.

Oh I understand completely..... but remember, it may not have been the swingset that was the source of the infection. It would be bad if everyone thought it was the park and it turned out to be something else, so they have to find out for sure.

maybe he did get it from somewhere else, between the park and home. but MRSA is a VERY bad thing in my past and I would rather keep kids off of playground equipment for safety sake. keeping kids off of playground equipment isnt going to cause any harm whereas if that is indeed were it is, the next child may not be so lucky.
navy2mom 07-11-2008, 02:04 AM Donna, Where in Murphy Canyon (which District? and which park??) I have a friend that takes her childcare kids to the park in our district everyday between 9-10am....and i'm going to make sure she knows tomorrow about this. Thank you for the letting us all know. I really hope that the little boy is going to be okay.
Merri 07-11-2008, 11:24 AM I hope that they are able to identify the source. I have a horror of MRSA! That is scary.
marine_wife71099 07-11-2008, 11:29 AM Donna which park is it because we live right beside of one of them as well. I probably just won't let my kids go to any of them for awhile just to be safe.
Brandi 07-11-2008, 11:32 AM Oh man, that is horrible! Those parks are pretty nasty though.... the few times that we went, they were just sort of grimey. Typical of a park though, I guess... since kids are grimey :lol
I hope everything is alright with the little boy and I definitely would be safe rather than sorry also!
kathy 07-11-2008, 11:34 AM I have and am a carrier for MRSA(thanks to my husband bringing it back from deployment) Every one carries the staph on their body, just some people are more prone to the infections. He probably already had it on his body and the cut gave it the opportunity to flourish! I hope he gets well soon!
Ma*Becca 07-11-2008, 11:44 AM Oh wow Oh wow Oh wow! I wonder if the district offices are going to notify us! They should, My kids are band from the park now....this sucks, I hope that little boy is okay.
CoffeeGirl 07-11-2008, 11:50 AM :faint:wowsers Thats terrible! Did they alert housing to clean that up???
Ma*Becca 07-11-2008, 12:03 PM I just got off the phone with the Santo district and they said they havent been notified yet.....they said once they are notified by the parents they will send notices to all the residents.
Ma*Becca 07-11-2008, 11:44 PM Anyone have any update on the little boy at the hospital? Im curious to know how he is doing?

LOL good to know!
mackenziesmommy 07-12-2008, 08:25 PM I agree I wouldn't ban the park considering he could have already had it and this cut at the park saved his life.
