Jennygirl 07-11-2008, 08:32 AM Often find yourself knocking peoples jobs?
Like garbage men are people who cant do anything else, flipping burgers is below me, the USPS is full of idiots?
Brandi 07-11-2008, 08:35 AM Sometimes I do when it comes to customer service :yes I have worked in customer service quite a bit so I know the stress that can come with it but I still don't think I should be on the receiving end of shittastic customer service just b/c they are frustrated with their job.
Other than that, not really.
Though, Jaxon did tell me a few days ago that he wanted to be a garbage man when he grows up and I told him that he should really consider another field b/c garbage men have to work around incredibly stinky garbage and do not get paid much to do it. He asked me why and I told him it's probably b/c they didn't go to school long enough to learn another job :dunno

My BIL is a garbage man and he makes better money then my dad does...He also is super smart...They get free health insurance thats better then ours and my DH works for the gov't.
LuvsHarleys 07-11-2008, 08:37 AM Sometimes, when I know people are not being as nice as they should be.

I have only ever known one "garbage guy" and he worked for minimal pay and hated his job. So, I was only going by my prior experience with it. I can't imagine having to work in that type of heat around that kind of smell for any type of money, but I didn't think any of them really got paid that well.

He actually makes different pay for each day of the week! They get safety points every pay day...His co workers have gone on 2 weeks cruises and vacations for free with their points. My sister wont save them LOL, she got DS his high chair for free.
Jennygirl 07-11-2008, 08:43 AM I started this because my friend doesnt work which is fine but she is like the only job they can get is flipping burgers...Well atleast they are working.
Brandi 07-11-2008, 08:47 AM I've done some crappy jobs so I"m not in any place to ever come down on anyone for what they do. I firmly believe that working anywhere and trying your best at that job is better than not working and being a bum/loser. Period. I've "flipped burgers", waited tables, been a hostess, customer service, office clerk/receptionist... none of which are that glamorous, but I was young and didn't have a degree and I was doing what I needed to do to make enough money to pay my bills.
Jennygirl 07-11-2008, 08:49 AM I always look at it this way...If someone didnt do a certain job, who would?
little.lili 07-11-2008, 09:01 AM Yeah... I've been around friends who've made comments like "ewwww this guy works at a fast food? yuckkkk"
I never know what they mean... Its just a crappy part time? (and by crappy I mean not the most glamorous situation, KWIM?) And so what if it turns into a full time?
At least they HAVE a job :yes I think thats a lot more valuable than what the job is.
Honestly only when a person pisses me off.
I find myself thinking, "yeah, that's why you do such-n-such for a living!"

I was going to say... one of my teachers in HS was married to a garbage man and they had a 4000 sqft home... can't get that on a teachers salary. He made kick ass money!
sdshorty 07-11-2008, 11:00 AM Not at all, because I grew up with very hard working people which didn't necessarily have 'lucrative' jobs. My mom worked at Popeyes for 5 years making ends meet, my dad worked out in the fields picking vegetables busting has ass for many years. Many family members have done that as well. I mean, most of my family members have done jobs that wouldn't be considered 'high end' or some that people would not consider 'educated' kind of jobs. I would NEVER look down on ANYONE for doing ANY job to make ends meet. I mean, I would never even judge strippers or anything like that either. A job is a job, it makes money, it puts food on your table, and there is nothing dishonorable about that. I understand a parent saying to their child that they want something 'better' for them than a garbage man or whatever, because the parent might feel they want their child to get a good college education, which is not really needed for many jobs. But that doesn't make any of those jobs any less respectable in my eyes.
JudyB 07-11-2008, 11:03 AM Nope, don't put down others jobs
I will however say that maybe you need to find another job if your c.s. is poor
I have had some not so glamorous jobs in the eyes of others, but ya know, sometimes you need to start there to get what you really want. And sometimes those so called shit jobs are the ones that can give you the success you desire because you learn to fight for what you want in a good way
kt*hed 07-11-2008, 11:04 AM No i don't judge by jobs but I think thats because I grew up differently. My dad moved up the "fast food chain" and made a very successful career flipping burgers. He now owns 4 McDonald's restraunts and it allowed us kids to have a very blessed life in my opinion (They paid for all of their kids college educations, etc.) We did learn through it all that it does take hard work to make good money but it can be done doing any kind of job, even the ones you don't normally think of.
CoffeeGirl 07-11-2008, 11:10 AM I know that there are many careers that require diplomas and those are considered more prestigous jobs but I am not a person who trashes other peoples jobs because my opinion is this-At least they have a job, at least they are trying & at least they are not a bum & mooching off of others-I do however want more for my children but I still do not knock any job out there-money is money IMO
Ellen 07-11-2008, 11:19 AM Nope! If anything, I may be critical of the individual performance of an employee - that has nothing to do with their line of work. If people work hard and do their job, that is commendable, no matter if they are flipping burgers, cashing checks, picking up garbage or running a major company. If they are NOT performing THEY are the idiot, NOT the position.
NWnavywife 07-11-2008, 11:25 AM They arent on welfare living off the state ...should they be there would be complaints about that . A job is a job and the fact that I worked KFC gave me dignity which is worth so much more then what other people think of my job .
In my old age I have gotten so tired of judgements on my person , how I look , and other things . Life is so short and I a normally giving , helpful , sacrificial person have become jaded over the years with humanity . Why does it have to be with the
"prestige " My family is happy , we dont have a lot but we are happy ...isnt that what life is supposed to be about ?

:yes, I agree with you 100%, I sometimes get upset with people in certain jobs, but not because of the job they do, but because of their attitude. I just think, you may not like the job you do, but there is no need to pass on your shitty attitude to others. I feel people should do the best they possibly can no matter what the job is
Tiffykins30 07-11-2008, 11:45 AM I'm actually pretty grateful for people who do the "not so glamorous jobs". My thought process is " hey at least they aren't leaching off the gov't ".
I started working at the ripe age of 13 with my mom in a veterinarian clinic scooping poop, cleaning kennels and bathing dogs. I worked through high school and by the time I graduated, I was a fully trained and qualified veterinarian technician. I continued in the veterinarian industry until I was about 26 yrs of age .
I don't think I am above working in any position as long as it's beneficial to myself and my family.
MrsDarland 07-11-2008, 11:50 AM I dont knock other jobs but I do find that there are some that I maybe feel overqualified? to do?? Im not sure if that is the right word. But when I do have the opportunity to go to school and I do have a sort of trade "degree" one might call it, I dont feel that I hsould be flipping burgers, but I have absolutely nothing against those who do........KWIM?
WGs_Grrl 07-11-2008, 11:53 AM I work for a non-profit that deals with employment issues. I find those who work in any job noble, decent, dedicated, and admirable. I admire housekeepers, I admire janitors, gardeners, anyone who does what snotty a$$ people consider "menial". I'd like to see their pampered, coddled a$$es do that work!
Miss B Hav'n 07-11-2008, 11:59 AM Nope, not at all. I worked as a hotel maid for three summers - once you scrub toilets for a living it really doesn't make anything seem "beneath" you. I think there is pride to be had in ANY job.
Green~Mammy 07-11-2008, 12:04 PM Nope garbage men and people that do other jobs along that nature are very vital to our society.
No I dont. I cannot stand when people do that either. Hey a job is a job dont be ashamed. I just applied at McDonalds and other places like that because its part time work and I want some extra stuff that I dont want to use the money dh makes. I got a job as a call rep for Wells Fargo and yeah its not my dream job but its 10 bucks an hour and its the hours I want.
*lauren* 07-11-2008, 01:02 PM I always look at it this way...If someone didnt do a certain job, who would?
there is NO NEED for telemarketers in this world.
i can't think of one person that actually enjoys receiving calls from them, and if you do, let me know because i've got some things i need to sell.
