What is the place like? Housing? Job market? All info that you can provide me with would be most appreciated.

It looks like we're heading that way, ONE MORE TIME I will have to leave everything behind just to follow Zach :vent, house, job, you name it. No orders to stay in Jax and we just ran out of time, we need to pick this cycle or the next one at the latest.

Please any info would be helpful! :sigh

UPDATE** Well, it seems like they won't move us to NI becuase of budget issues, pretty much they are saying that it would cost too much to move us out there... UGHHHH! Now we only have 4 choices: Oklahoma :pukey:pukey:pukey, Key West= No thank you!, Norfolk :pukey:pukey:pukey and Fallon, NV :pukey:pukey:pukey.

I hate this, I am literally in tears just thinking about it, Zach wants Oklahoma and I don't want to go there :depressed:depressed:depressed

the only info i have is its beautiful:D and the beach on base is one of the best ones in SD
i dont think theres housing on NI except officer housing...but i could be wrong. and also i dont think there are many job opportunities actually on the island. but IN San Diego itself you should be fine. oh and um theres no drive throughs on NI which i always find funny...they banned them because it would bring the housing prices down or something lol.

My DH is stationed at 32nd. so I can only offer info about housing.. Most of all the neighborhoods I've seen are nice.. We're in Lofgren Terrace currently, and it's not too bad. It takes 15 mins. for G to get to 32nd, but I have NO idea how the bridge commute will be in the morning.

There's always the option of Strand housing.. It's on Coronado..It's called Silver Strand I and II...

This is the PPV company's website.. you can see pics and get more info there..http://www.lincolnmilitary.com/sandiego/

North Island is actually part of San Diego. So, you'd be able to pretty much live and work anywhere within the greater san diego area. North Island is just one of the bases that are there within the area and it IS gorgeous! But you'd have all of San Diego to choose from as far as living and working. :yes

North Island is a base on Cornado and it's really not an island, either! My dh was stationed there at one of the air traffic control towers in 1999-2001. We lived in El Cajon because it was cheaper because I refused to live in housing. NI only has a few houses and it's all officer. It has a commissary and NEX that are pretty new. Coronado is extremely expensive to live in so unless you are well to do, look eastward if you plan on renting or buying instead of housing.

We lived in Lofgren at one point too and it took about 30 minutes to get to base in the morning because the island does get fairly backed up in the morning.

You can live anywhere in SD because none of it is an absolutely horrible drive. It is better to live north due to traffic (at least from what we have learned).

The only housing actually on the base though are for really high up officers, nobody else. THe Silver Strand is nice, but I think they usually have a longer wait.

My DH is stationed there too. The waiting list for housing there is over a year. We live in Chesterton and it only takes him about 20 min. So it is not bad.

If he's stationed on NI you can live anywhere in San Diego, in any of the housing. My DH works in Coronado (on the island) and we live in NTC housing. It doesn't take him too long to get to work.

I'm sorry it all fell thru for you guys! That happened over and over to us too and somehow (even after being told no) we got Hawaii like we wanted.

I'd go w/Key West. NO to OK, VA and NV!

Do you have family anywhere? What about him? Are any of those bases near anything you like? Sorry you're not getting Jax, we've been there twice now and have enjoyed it.

Good luck!

Oh Alex I'm sorry you guys could not find any billets to stay. I think I would go with Norfolk or Key West but I dont really know anything about any of the other places other than Fallon really sucks (that's what I've heard)
