goldilockz 07-14-2008, 09:22 AM I would tell you that I am in Colorado, but ... I just can't bring myself to.
ii does not equal the pronoun I. Also, please turn off the caps lock, to most of us that's the equivalent of walking into a room and screaming your head off.

WELL, THATS TOO BAD. ii'M SORRY YOU FEEL THAT WAY. =] TAKE CARE.
icarryyourheart 07-14-2008, 10:56 AM I see that you're brand new, so first, welcome.
You really should take goldilockz' comments into consideration - your style of typing, with the "ii" and the caps lock on, is not only incredibly annoying, but difficult to read as well. I'd be willing to bet that you'll get many more responses if you would follow her advice -- she's been around for a while and is a very active member of the boards, she knows what she's talking about.
DH is stationed at Fort Carson but is currently in Iraq. I lived in Colorado Springs with him from the time we were married until he deployed, about 5 months total. I'll be moving back there some time in January, before he comes home from Iraq. I don't know too much, but I'll give you what I do know.
I didn't spend any time on post, except for a few ER and Dr. visits, so I can't be much help there, except that I did note that there does seem to be alot there - it's much bigger than I'd imagined it would be.
We lived off post, at the far north part of Colorado Springs - it made for an approximately 30 minute commute for DH but it was a really nice area (more expensive than living closer to post, but I thought it was worth it).
There's a lot to do not only in the Springs but outside it as well - Garden of the Gods, lots of outdoor areas - DH taught me to rock climb, so we went all over for that. There are several malls in Colorado Springs, some nicer than others, also a ton of restaurants, etc.
The weather is amazing, very dry, and not very rainy. I didn't spend a winter there, but had been for visits during the winter, and noticed that the snow doesn't hang around for long -- as opposed to upstate NY where we're from, where the snow stays all winter and just keeps piling up.
That's all I can think of for now, but if you have more questions feel free to ask away, either in a PM or in the thread.

Ya know, maybe if you were a little less snotty you might get a few more responses and a little more help!

HollyJay 07-15-2008, 04:35 AM I lived in Colorado Springs for 19 years. It is the best place in the country, in my opinion. ;) The weather is indescribable, because you'll get all four seasons in one day. Get ready to drive in snow. There is SO much to do and see- if you like outdoorsy places you couldn't have gotten a better station. Off-post housing is much nicer than Ft. Carson housing, and you should be able to get a decent apartment on the BAH for that area. If you want to rent a house, look in the Widefield/Fountain area or you probably won't be able to afford it on the BAH. The farther North you go, the more expensive housing gets. If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me and welcome to SOS!

antjen 07-29-2008, 11:19 PM We're at Carson now too. We bought a house in Fountain after living on post for a whole month. The housing there really stinks, but they have built some new ones recently that look pretty nice. There are tons of things to do around here. I love it so much that when he gets out when he comes home, we are staying here instead of moving home to Cali. I like the weather too like the other ladies have said. Although you will prob hear that you don't need air conditioning, don't listen, you will. Overall it's a great place to live!

infinity629 08-17-2008, 12:59 AM My husband and I came from Schofield; and although i enjoyed being able to go to the beaches whenever I wanted, I really dont miss it there! I love experiencing all the seasons; and really the winters arent that bad here! Yeah it gets cold, but not that cold. We live off post in Colorado Springs, we rent a very very very nice apt for only 775 (http://property.onesite.realpage.com/templates/template_griffisblessing/default.asp?w=theoasis_2&t=template_griffisblessing)! Compared to Hawaii where you get a peice of crap for 2000!!! Blah.
Also there are plenty of things to do here, and if you want to go to football or baseball games Denver isnt that far away! Oh and traffic is WONDERFUL compared to Hawaii, its so light! :cp
p.s.- What unit is your husband in? My husband is still stationed out of schofield he is with 1-27 infantry; I saw in your profile your husband deployed in December, so did mine! Hmm. Hes pcsing here after this deployment too, I just beat him here! hehe.
*Dawn* 08-22-2008, 12:16 PM Hello, Welcome to the group, I'm Dawn, I live about 35 minutes away from Springs down in Pueblo. My dh got out of the Navy and now works up at Peterson AF base (but the comute to gate 20 on Carson is only 30-35 minutes).
You will find like everyone else said it is very beautiful here. You will find it rains in the summertime but only really enough to get the dust down and maybe to cool it off a bit. The winter time the snow doesn't stick around to long really.
There are alot of places to go and see around here it just depends on what your into, we have alot of sports teams both college and pro, alot of cool sites to see like someone saidthe Garden of the Gods, we also have Pikes Peak,if you like skiing we have all the resorts close by,Bishop's Castle (My favorite this man is building a medieveal -style castle himself),The Royal Gorge, The Riverwalk here in Pueblo see here is just a short list I can go on..trust me..lol My husband grew up here and I have seen it all I think..lol
As for housing I do know down here its alot cheaper. We get a 3 bedroom house for $550, but its going to depend on if he wants to do a 30 minute comute. To my husband to save us $200-300 a month on rent it was worth it. Plus for that amount we couldn't find a house up there it would of been an apt. So that also helped with our decission.
