DH's deployment date got moved back by two months. A couple of people keep saying, "He's never going to go because by then we'll have a new president." It kind of makes me get my hopes up. What do you guys think?

It will take AWHILE for any new plans a new administration puts into place to occur...

If anything, his deployment may be shorter? :glomp

I would not take bets on it.

Exactly. I wouldn't stake anything important on him not leaving because of the new president. It will still take a while to get everyone out once they do announce our withdrawl.

Whether there is a new president or not, deployments will happen. I would rather get it started now to get it over with then keep pushing the date.

When the new persident comes in, they are not just going to take all the troops out, it will take time for things to get in motion to do that, if they ever pull all of then out. Either way, they will still have to send new troops to replace the ones comming home till it all happens.

One thing I have learned big time being a military spouse..is...until it is in writing...anything change change. Leave can be cancelled, you can be deployed quickly (happened to us. 2 week notice) just anything.

Kinda like when there was talk about the pcs $ change taking place, until I see it in the AFI...I'm like :rolleyes

The new administration won't even be in office until January of 09 - and even then it will take quite some time for everyone/everything just to get settled. Chances are we won't see any major changes actually taking effect until this time of next year at the earliest, let alone direct impact on troop rotation, etc.

I think it's stupid to depend on a new president to keep our men home. Just me but they signed up for the military knowing that there was a possibility of deploying somewhere.

Don't ge tyour hopes up. Plan all future deployments as if they are going to happen b/c well they probably are. If by some fluke it doesn't then be happy :)

My thoughts:

It is the military. They can send him when they want to and are ready. And as for the new president; we don't even know who that will be right now. And it will be several months before he even takes office. And then he'll have to get the ball rolling for troops to come out if that is what he does. So, I wouldn't get my hopes up too high. It would be nice if he didn't go but I wouldn't count on it.

Definately plan on him still getting deployed. Yes the presidents both aim to reduce troops in Iraq, what we are forgetting is that Afgahnistan is posing a bigger issue now so we may just end up deploying there instead. either way, troops still there will get replaced. I would count on him being deployed, that way if he is, then you were more prepared and if he doesnt then Whoopie!!

I'm with the others: don't get your hopes up. I'm still planning on DH deploying to Iraq, I know there's no stopping it whoever goes into office.

I say...think positive...and be greatful for the extra time you have before he leaves....and it could possibly be that he doesn't get deployed but i wouldn't count on it!
