So we're thinking of buying a house so i've been looking through my credit report and everything. It just seems like so much debt. Thanks in part to student loans mostly. How heavy are those weighed on a credit report? You can't really get through school without them. So does everyone just have shit credit cause they had higher education? :worried

Actually student loans, assuming you pay on time, are GOOD for your credit. They are a good kind of debt. Kind of like how a mortgage is good for your credit. Yes, it's debt, but it's not counted negatively.

I have them as well, and I used to think the same thing! But our financial advisor explained it to me and now I don't worry about them as much.

I have over $50k in student loan debt. My credit score is REALLY high because I've always paid my loan on time, and that's the only debt I had when buying a house.

i have 14k in student loans i gotta pay back and, because i've been paying them on time, my credit has slowly been going back up.

my ex put it in the shitter [long story], but i took care of that problem, so now i'm just trying to fix the mess he made.

Yep. School loans are fine. I had 10,000 on my credit report when bought our house. They didn't care one bit. We got approved to buy another house in addition to the one we already own before I paid them off. So, ya, don't worry hun.

you've already gotten my answer, but they are not looked at like say credit card debt........they are in a different league.

Good luck with your house buying. I've been reading your threads and can't wait to be in your shoes soon!

I dread student loans... I was fortunate to have my first degree paid for but now that I am going back, I am going to do this one myself.... Unless I get a grant or scholarship, medical school will end up putting me in student loan debt over $150,000
