View Full Version : USAA?
Adara 07-16-2008, 07:02 PM I'm sure there are plenty of ladies on here who own accounts with USAA. DB and I are thinking we want to start up our own account (banking, car insurance, ect.), but I was just wondering what your opinion is of them? Are they helpful? Good benefits? Anything to be aware of before signing up? Thanks!
sandykay 07-16-2008, 07:04 PM we love them and they have good loans too. Have never had a problem with them. Dh just got life insurance with them too.
rosebud* 07-16-2008, 07:04 PM USAA rocks. We love them we finally got our Direct deposit switched over, but their customer service has been awesome. Car insurance is pretty great too. We also have renters insurance thru them.very cheap with an added bonus on the jewelery.
CoffeeGirl 07-16-2008, 07:04 PM I (L) them!
piggypunkinetta 07-16-2008, 07:05 PM We have everything but a checking account and credit card with them. We are very pleased. We wont switch or checking from Navy Fed., because I like having a physical bank to go to, plus they have never done us wrong.
rosebud* 07-16-2008, 07:05 PM I do believe you have to be a dependent or AD member to have accounts with USAA so your DB could have one but unless you are a dependent in your own right ( IE active parent or parent/grandparent was a member) you won't be able to until you become a dependent.
Nikki_D 07-16-2008, 07:08 PM I love them. We have our vehicle insurance through them, financing on my truck is through them, and we have a checking account there that is only for savings. I love it.
icarryyourheart 07-16-2008, 07:08 PM We have their car insurance, our car loan, and credit cards with them. I think when he comes home I want to talk about switching our checking account to them too - they have great customer service, and have been really helpful to in all our dealing with them.

I believe that to be true too.
Lckychrmzz 07-16-2008, 07:12 PM I love them. We have them for our bank account, savings, credit card, IRA, home loan, car insurance, and home owners insurance.
i love them. we've kept navy fed for an actual bank to go through plus everything in your checking clears so much faster and your debit card is a rewards card too which is an even better bonus. I wish we had switched to them a LONG time ago.
soon2bAFwife 07-16-2008, 09:00 PM I was going to try and set up an account so I could transfer my money before i move but I'm not his dependent yet so I can't.
Just means I'll have to figure out what i'm going to do! guess I'll have to pay some kind of fee
Victoria 07-16-2008, 09:01 PM We prefer USAA over Navy Fed! We have both accounts, but recently started having pay deposited into our USAA banking account due to taking out a pre-comm loan with them. So far, the banking portion is awesome! We have renter's insurance, auto insurance, checking, savings and a credit card through them. :)
kdlansdale 07-16-2008, 09:05 PM USAA is fantastic! I would get it if i were you. You'll be saving quite a bit of money. Although if you have mercury its only a few bucks diff. I will say that I've had experience with their insurance though i'm sad that I can share this I'm happy my dad had it. My father died of cancer and had life insurance through them. They made the experience as pleasant as it could be considering. They were so nice and even called several times to check on the family to make sure we were doing well. They had financial advisor's call and ask if we needed any help with what to do with such a large amount of money and it wasn't rude like some of the people that called. They are also so pleasant when you get into a car accident. They were always very helpful! Also they have a checking and savings account that are wonderful as well. If you have over a certain amount of money they offer a great return! Which is great if you are saving for someone college etc. Good luck!
jen1982 07-16-2008, 09:30 PM I have been with USAA since I was 16, through my dad. They are amazing. For the past ten years I have not had any issues. I have a credit card, renters insurance, and car insurance with them. :)
KatReborn 07-16-2008, 09:52 PM we love them, they rock!
chely7425 07-16-2008, 09:56 PM We are in the process of switching everything over to them.. so far they totally rock!!! Very helpful, awesome customer service and yeah... much better then B of A which is what we have now :D
*Samantha* 07-16-2008, 11:01 PM I have insurance, credit card..had a load..and now have savings account I LOVEEEEE USAA
jhlyon51906 07-16-2008, 11:07 PM USAA is awesome, we used to have Armed Forces bank accounts, but we switched, and he can add you to his account, but there are a few restrictions on viewing account activity, etc. because you aren't married. DH added me right before we got married. Just give them a call and ask them about it, they are extremely helpful.
DakotaCowgirl 07-17-2008, 10:16 AM We are going to switch over to them when we get rid of all our checks. We are going to keep one box because our account will be open because it is local and then we can deposit checks and cash here in town. That makes it easy.
Miss B Hav'n 07-17-2008, 10:22 AM We use them for insurance (car and homeowners) and also for a good portion of our banking (are in the process of transferring all banking to them). In the seven years we have been with them, I have not had a single issue. In fact, their service has always been outstanding for us.
thejigsup 07-17-2008, 10:24 AM USAA is great! We have IRAs, renters, homeowners and auto ins., plus banking through them. Their customer service is great and, I have to say, BEST OF ALL, is the "deposit @ home" feature. If you have a scanner, you can go to their website, log in, and deposit the check there (via scanning front and back). No visit to a branch, no mailing it in and waiting. It is great. You can transfer the money to any other bank or account too (such as NFCU). The hardest part is tearing up the check after you deposit it!
querida06 07-17-2008, 10:47 AM USAA rocks. We love them we finally got our Direct deposit switched over, but their customer service has been awesome. Car insurance is pretty great too. We also have renters insurance thru them.very cheap with an added bonus on the jewelery.
Ditto!

Actually, I've heard different. If you call them and open an account over the phone, they'll actually do it. I'm not sure if they've changed it recently, but it's worth a try. Just try calling the number on their website and don't be afraid to ask. They have awesome customer service! Another bonus, use any ATM and they refund the ATM fees at the end of each statement. Hope this helps! :)
Not sure how old this post is from another thread (http://www.gochecking.com/myinformation.php):
They will open accounts for USA and Canadians, you do not have to be a US military personnel to qualify for membership, I received a membership without being in the military. They do issue debit cards (mastercard/visa logo) which offer cashback on purchases for the use of the card. Click below. (verified by gochecking.com)

Adara 07-21-2008, 03:16 PM Wow! This is all great information...thank you so much ladies. I'm just doing some research before we get married. I've been wanting to switch to them for quite awhile and now, thanks to all your replies, I'm sure of it! :)

Not quite true.... DB checked, you can be a fiance too, if you plan on getting married in the next 6 months.
sharonbury 08-19-2008, 12:41 AM ha, I just posted a topic about USAA without realizing there was already one. I'm not only a customer with many products, I'm an employee of 6 1/2 years. ...long before I married into the military. It's great to hear all the positive stuff.

for USAA membership you have to be current or former military or dependents of former or current military (and they have just expanded the membership requirements..but you still have to have some relationship/affiliation with the military). USAA.COM to see if you qualify or 1-800-531-usaa

we have everything through usaa and we (L) it
dh added me to his account about a year ago.... so you actually can have an account just not your own. im not sure if you can do it if you are just "dating" but i dont see how they would know? he will just need to call and add you to his account and he will let them know what you have access to... (i was on dh's debit card but not on his credit card til we were married, just cause i didn't need it)
we never told they that we intended to get married within the next 6 months... they didnt' ask.

USAA Bank (800) 531-8722
they did that for a very SHORT while...
you can no longer get usaa unless you are military, dependent, retired, or prior service.
or... you have a joint account like i was talking about (above)
Tiffykins30 08-19-2008, 12:49 AM We have them for everything, checking, savings, auto and renter's insurance. After the first of the year, we will working up our mutual funds and other variable investment opportunities that USAA offers. I'm in the insurance industry, and wouldn't have our policies with any other company. We will be getting a local bank account (probably Eglin Federal Credit Union), and I have a seperate personal account that is in my maiden name that I will not close, it's with WAMU.
They have some fabulous benefits when it comes to purchasing a home and PCS'ing. I truthfully have been extremely pleased with the customer service we have received. Plus, for any checks that we need deposited, we can just scan them in and email them to be deposited into our accounts, it's a nice way to make for not having any local branches.
They are the bestest :tu
We have everything with them.
