We got orders to RAF Mildenhall and we'll be there in November and I have a ton of Q's!We were told it takes 2 months for your car to get there is that true!Do you need to have your social security card to get visa's and passports!I have mine but I never got my last name changed on it after me & my husband got married! I know I'm lazy! And if anyone is stationed there!I would like to see pics of the base and housing!Me and my husband are curious about EVERYTHING!And how far is Suffolk from the base!

Congrats on the orders! DH and I have been at Lakenheath, which is 10 minutes from Mildenhall, for 3 years with another 3 to go.

Depending on where you ship your car from it can take 2 months, or more, to get here. We shipped my car from SC and it took 1.5 months to get here. I don't remember having to show my SS card to get my no fee or VISA. There are 12 or 13 differnt housing areas here ranging from actually on Lakenheath, Mildenhall and Feltwell to up to 45 minutes away. Right now there is a housing freeze because 2 of the housing areas are being turned back over to the English. Hopefully by the time you get here it will be over. How many bedrooms do you qualify for?

To get your visa, it costs ~$430... the military will reimburse you once you get there (you'll have to file for it). You don't need your social security card to get your visa. Apply for your visa online and you'll have to go to a biometric data center (they'll give you a couple locations) to get your fingerprints scanned into a computer and your picture taken... it's a new requirement for England as of this past December. Your visa should get passed through with 2 weeks. Just make sure to bring your passport to the biometric data center and the printout from your visa application.

Let me know if you have any questions and good luck!

We just got orders for RAF Mildenhall as well! We are really excited about being overseas and are supposed to be PCS Novemberish - and I'm glad I found a board that has other military and military spouses over there!

We decided to sell our car - we are trying really hard to get debt free and so I will be walking and taking the bus a lot :) We are also planning on renting housing off base - I looked online and was told the wait could be as long as 48 months, partly due to my hubby having just joined in March so he isn't very high in rank and we will have (hopefully tomorrow) a baby girl and a dog, so we are thinking living off base may be better. Our query of OHA said it would be about 900 pounds....that should take care of rent I hope.

Hi, my wife and I have been at RAF Mildenhall for 7 months now. To answer quickly your questions. Yes, it took two months for our car to arrive. I see Gottli already answered your question about the passport. The housing on RAF Mildenhall is pretty small but from what I have seen is nicer than housing on RAF Lakenheath. Suffolk is the county Mildenhall is in.

My wife an I live off base in a big house that was actually built for Americans. It is a normal house, the garage is still pretty small though. :vent.....add me as a friend on myspace and you can see random pics of the base. Look forward to having some new faces here! FYI: we get 950GBP for rent and you can't bank any of it not spent. Any other questions let me know!

You clearly have no clue what you're talking about. She was joking and trying to be funny with you. What is your problem, dude?

You're right, we DON'T need trolls, and something tells me you ARE one. Stop telling our Mods what to do, assmonkey.
