Hi Ladies,
My sailor and I are thinking about where we would like to consider for his next orders and were thinking international...well, I am post transplant and take medication daily for this. I also have checkups every 6 mos right now. Do you think this will hold us back from receiving these orders.

What else do they check for?

thanks.

Are you EFM or in the EFMP? I would think that being post-transplant would put you at a pretty high category, which would definately cross all OCONUS off the list for you, except maybe Hawaii (because Tripler AMC is HUGE.)

If you are not in the EFMP they will force you into I bet. They forced me into it, for a "chronic illness"--which was very mild asthma. It DID hold up our orders for a few months while we got me enrolled, etc. We did get screened suitable though, and went to Italy. :)

Coming to Hawaii you don't do a full overseas screening but they did require that I update my EFP information. PITA if you ask me (my asthma is mild)

Question is---do you want to be somewhere that can't handle your medical issues?

It depends on how far post transplant you are, what duty station you are considering, etc. If you aren't in the EFMP program already you will be forced into it most likely. Depending on what the doctors say, some overseas stations may remain available for you.

Oh and you asked what else they check for? Do you mean medical or otherwise?

I know they sent me to the doctors w/a checklist like vaccines up to date, recent pap, etc. That's how they caught the asthma and made me go EFMP.

They sent us to class about an overseas move.

They screened us financially as well.

Normally having more than 3 dependents does not help.

Really depends on many things, but if you are EFM cats 4, 5, 6 you might have trouble getting overseas bases.

Thanks for your help. I'm not EFM....yet, apparently.

I am 9 years post transplant, so hopefully that will help. My civillian doc can attest that I have had no complications and I just see him for medicine maintence.

Well, it looks like we just roll the dice and see what happens. lol...

They also need to make sure they can fill your prescription at the base you're going to if it's overseas. (as there is no civilian option for that, like CONUS)

Good luck!
