View Full Version : If Jesus were alive today....
LittleMsSunshine 07-22-2008, 03:37 AM What would his political affiliation be? Why?
Disclaimer:
This is NOT an anti-Jesus or anti-Christianity thread. I just thought it'd be interesting to hear everyone's opinions. :yes
What would his political affiliation be? Why?
Liberal democrat, of course! He believed in the payment of taxes to support those who were unable to support themselves, he believed in placing women in positions of power and respect, and he was a heck of a party animal.

I totally agree. I always pictured him as the kinda guy who'd wear a tuxedo t-shirt and birks.... who you could sit around a fire and knock a few beers back with.
Oh, and I'm pretty sure he'd be down-to-earth enough to laugh at himself.
Definitely not a Republican.
RunAwayLove 07-22-2008, 03:45 AM hey :(
i would wear a tuxedo shirt and drink beers with you and i laugh at ymself all the time and im republican..lol

For the Lord’s sake, respect all human authority—whether the king as head of state, 14 or the officials he has appointed. For the king has sent them to punish those who do wrong and to honor those who do right.
15 It is God’s will that your honorable lives should silence those ignorant people who make foolish accusations against you. 16 For you are free, yet you are God’s slaves, so don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil. 17 Respect everyone, and love your Christian brothers and sisters.[a (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1peter%202:13-17;&version=51;#fen-NLT-30376a)] Fear God, and respect the king.
I don't know what his political affiliation would be but he would follow whatever president or law we had diligently.

Even if he'd lived under the Saddam regime? Or under Hitler? Or Stalin?
:dunno
I'd like to think he'd do what was moral and right.... regardless of who was in charge. :yes
(This comment is in NO way meant to sound mean)

Conservative republican!!
OP

Conservative republican!!
Okay. Why?
flangl18 07-22-2008, 10:12 AM He would be the party of Christianity. He wouldn't care for the hypocrisy of any of the political parties that exist. Yes, he would be the "common man" and care about the little people, but he would not stand for some of the moral values that the liberal side endorses either. So, I believe he would lead his own "party".
Wicked 07-22-2008, 10:24 AM Neither, because I doubt Jesus would support the death penalty and both parties do.
When Jesus said "Love your enemies", I doubt that meant "Kill them".

I hear that.
BUt I think aside from the death penalty he would be in line more with the Democratic Party than the Republican Party, since he would be supportive of welfare.
anmiller86 07-22-2008, 10:32 AM i think he'd be his own party. all aboard the jesus van!! :giggle
i just think that because he doesn't totally fit in with either side.
Ellen 07-22-2008, 10:36 AM Not sure...but here's what I think he would support and not support
He would support government programs to help the less fortunate
He would support better education
He would support mentoring
He would support feeding the poor
He would support tiered taxing based on income
He would support medical for all
He would not support abortion
He would not support government waste
He would not support profiling
He would not support corporate greed
I'm sure I'll think of more.....
mpicky 07-22-2008, 01:20 PM I don't know what his political affiliation would be but he would follow whatever president or law we had diligently.
He didn't even do that in his day. Didn't he speak out against the elders? Didn't he throw the money tables over? Didn't he speak out against the oppresive Romans and most likely get killed for it? He called his father the king, which was against the law at the time.
mpicky 07-22-2008, 01:22 PM I think he would be a liberal socialist. I think he would be against capitalism. He would be anti- war, definately, he would be against abortion, too.
But, he would support all welfare programs.

I do beieve I corrected myself. :D
sdshorty 07-22-2008, 02:52 PM Honestly, it seems like he'd be more leaned to the liberal side of things. Also, I"m not sure he'd really be against abortion. I mean, I believe he wouldn't like it, but I feel like he'd lean more to a woman's right to choose. I mean, didn't GOD give man 'free will'?

that's always my argument :)
Lizim1981 07-22-2008, 03:43 PM Yep. God gave man all the free will he wants, but when women try to use it he apparently gets all sorts of pissed off.

LOL, I saw it after I posted and decided to let my post stand!
wife-n-mommy 07-22-2008, 03:47 PM not sure ... maybe somewhere in the middle... I don't feel like either party really is in line with what the Bible teaches :dunno
carmel11725 07-22-2008, 03:50 PM I honestly think He'd be his own party. I feel like none of the political parties represent Him or the Bible.
Elizabeth 07-22-2008, 03:51 PM Oh dear, I think he would have to be Independent. I don't think his views would align exactly with either main party. Although I think that goes for most people.

ITA agree with the above. He would absolutely not belong to either party.
He would encourage us to be better stewards of the environment.
He would want us to feed the hungry and help the poor, regardless of government programs.
He would want us to love everyone and be more humble. We are way too prideful.
He would be against abortion, whether or not law allows it.
He would want a renewal of hearts, more kindness, more support, more love and caring.
He would want us to take the homeless into our own homes.
He would want us to adopt children.
He would want us to give away our coveted possessions to those who need them more.
He would want us to stop bowing to money.
He would want us to love and listen to those who are hurting.
He would want us to intercept injustice throughout the world, not just our own backyard.
Most importantly, I believe he would stay far, far away from politics. He said give to Caesar what is Caesar's (meaning to pay taxes) and obey authority, but he never came close to getting involved in the law. He goes by His own laws, and wants us to as well.
Thus, why I vote by issues instead of party. I like to make up my own mind on what is right and I agree with neither side.
ETA: Remember, Jesus was a radical in His own day and I believe He would be now as well.
SIMMYBABEZ 07-23-2008, 04:09 PM Um dah............he would be in a monarchy.
King Jesus. It has a nice ring to it.
He would be active though, he wouldn't sit in a throne, or chew 40 times before he swallowed, he would be like Princess Diana, and be hands on with the world, and it's people.
That's what I think anyway.
ETA. Oh and he wouldn't carry hand sanitiser. He wouldn't spray his hand everytime he shook someone elses. :yes

I like that picture of Him... interesting. :)
Loretta 07-23-2008, 05:17 PM I think he would be Independent, for sure. :yes He would go with his morals and not the majority, which basically rules out dems and repubs:rofl

Agreed.
aubrey 07-23-2008, 05:20 PM Definitely not Republicans or Democrats. Or even the Green Party.
