View Full Version : Surprise Scare
goldilockz 07-23-2008, 09:22 PM Ok so everyone knows those videos you get sent that seem innocent at first. Such as the "car commercial" where the scary freaky girl pops up at the end. Know what I'm talking about? Ok.
Do you think it is cruel or hilarious to show your child in order to get a laugh?
Between the ages of say 7-15
jlbecker 07-23-2008, 09:24 PM CRUEL!!!! omg i hate those videos. they are the devil
sunshyne 07-23-2008, 09:25 PM how old of a child?
Loretta 07-23-2008, 09:27 PM It's hilarious. :lol It's a video...a simple explanation afterward will teach them the VERY valuable lesson that most of what you see in films and on television is not real.
Now...that being said, I'd never do it to a baby...but I would to Liam:rofl
square bear 07-23-2008, 09:27 PM Cruel. I personally don't find someone else's fear funny no matter what the age.
JudyB 07-23-2008, 09:27 PM Other...it's hilarious to do it to my 12 year old, but not so much my 4 year old...I would be paying for those nightmares :yes
However, Q did see one because we were not prepared for what would happen...her reaction was very funny but not something I would intentionally illicit(sp?)
Rileysmom 07-23-2008, 09:27 PM The lower end of that? Cruel... the higher end? payback for the hell most teens cause their parents anyways.. :teehee
sunshyne 07-23-2008, 09:28 PM I would totally do it to my 12 year old :yes Not so sure about my 7 year old...and wouldn't do it to my 5 year old.
Berkley 07-23-2008, 09:28 PM 15 funny as hell
younger then like 10 Cruel
Lizim1981 07-23-2008, 09:28 PM Nora saw one once. She was watching a self hypnosis one with my SIL. It had pretty colors and chirping birds and she was interested in it. I went to the bathroom and then OF COURSE, Linda Blair from The Exorcist pops up and there is a blood curdling scream coming from the speakers.
It took me 45 minutes to convince her that a mosnter wasn't going to come out of the computer to kill her.
If anybody EVER did that to her on purpose I think I'd be wearing their balls for a necklace.
Shaky 07-23-2008, 09:30 PM 7 year old? Cruel A teenager probably but I hate those videos! I'm waaay too jumpy and I have nightmares too easy :worried
Theresa 07-23-2008, 09:30 PM I said hilarious, but only if you're on the higher end of the scale, say 13-15.
Junior is 9 and it would be funny as hell. :rofl BUT, he is a mature 9 year old. We "scare" each other and his daddy all the time :giggle He's gone around the house in the dark at 1am, and banged on our window. (with my permission to scare G) :hystericlaugh Under 9 :dunno I guess it depends on the kids and the parent.
Lizim1981 07-23-2008, 09:31 PM Ok totally missed the 7-15 thing.
Over 10 HILARIOUS!
Amberly 07-23-2008, 09:34 PM It's funny...because I'm evil.
Loretta 07-23-2008, 09:35 PM I guess I'm a monster because Liam is four and I would totally do it:lol The thing is, he would laugh too...he loves "scary" movies, zombies, etc.
sunshyne 07-23-2008, 09:36 PM I guess I'm a monster because Liam is four and I would totally do it:lol The thing is, he would laugh too...he loves "scary" movies, zombies, etc.
my kids LOVE scary movies :yes
Berkley 07-23-2008, 09:51 PM I guess I'm a monster because Liam is four and I would totally do it:lol The thing is, he would laugh too...he loves "scary" movies, zombies, etc.
No your not
Different kids react differently to things.
Mine have never seen scary anything aside from outfits on halloween. The worst Zach watches is Spongebob..LOL
He'd be terrified..LOL
Now real life scares he could handle. That kid lives for IMAX..LOL
Loretta 07-23-2008, 09:52 PM Yeah...Liam has only ever been terrified of Santa Claus. He's still terrified of him, in fact. Nothing else seems to scare him, though:lol
flowerchild 07-23-2008, 09:55 PM Cruel. I personally don't find someone else's fear funny no matter what the age.
:yes

This is one reason why I wouldn't
7 year old? Cruel A teenager probably but I hate those videos! I'm waaay too jumpy and I have nightmares too easy :worried
And this is the second! I would never trick someone into seeing something that I didn't like.
~Jess~ 07-23-2008, 11:03 PM cruel unless they are a teenager. I don't need to scare the shit out of my kids for laughs when they wake up in the middle of the night and come to my side of the bed :no nope ain't happening. Now if they are teenagers then yeah it wuold be funny but not to little kids.
fridayheather 07-23-2008, 11:06 PM Depends on the sensitivity of the child. I don't even like those videos but I'm not a fan of the "shock second" or whatever. I like horror but more of the "screwing with your head" like Session 9 than crap jumping out at me like The Grudge.
airmanssweetie 07-23-2008, 11:09 PM i dont know... a friend of mine posted a jingle bells one.. the guy is singing and it says to make sure you listen and then all of a sudden theres a loud scream... i was alone and it scared the shit out of me :lmao
MIKOSWIFEY 07-23-2008, 11:15 PM Depends on the kid, so I'm undecided. I don't think I would do it to my kid that was younger than that though. :( Just mean and kind of fosters a feeling of distrust in the parent to keep them safe, IMO.
Serran 07-23-2008, 11:30 PM It just depends on the kid. I would totally do it to one of my younger brothers but not the other one.
curiousmunchkin 07-23-2008, 11:35 PM other, see if it was a teen than i would think hilarious, if it was someone younger i would lean more towards cruel depending on the child. i've had this done to me a long time ago & after i was done havin the crap scared out of me i couldnt stop laughin & sent it to me friends.
lovestosing 07-23-2008, 11:42 PM I have a panic disorder and stuff like that will put me in panic mode for days. To my sister, it was really funny to scare the shit out of me, but TO ME, it was very frustrating to struggle through sister-induced panic and anxiety to the point of almost non-function. Someone sent one to me just this last halloween and it set off a panic attack so bad that I had to call in sick from work....not cool. I'm not a chicken, but my hormones beg to differ. I agree with those who are sensitive to what different kids are able to handle. As for my household, none of that shit will be permitted, ever!
To scare my baby on purpose is cruel! Trent will be 3 and he does not watch scary movies nor do we allow that kind of stuff in our house.
Caimbrie 07-24-2008, 12:30 AM 7 cruel.. 15 hilarious.
Fidzy 07-24-2008, 12:31 AM CRUEL!!!! omg i hate those videos. they are the devil
I agree!
estacia 07-24-2008, 01:10 AM I think they are hilarious! I have showed DS and he is 8. He got scared, but then laughed. So that being said, I think it depends on the kid.
RunAwayLove 07-24-2008, 01:11 AM not funny they freak the hell out of me
Ellen 07-24-2008, 01:13 AM The lower end of that? Cruel... the higher end? payback for the hell most teens cause their parents anyways.. :teehee
Exactly!!!!!
Bryanna 07-24-2008, 01:15 AM Yeah...Liam has only ever been terrified of Santa Claus. He's still terrified of him, in fact. Nothing else seems to scare him, though:lol
I'm scared of santa claus too.
A big guy who breaks into your house and your parents don't care?
Some guy who WATCHES YOU all the time and your parents don't care?
Some guy who makes you sit on his lap to talk to him... and your parents encourage it?
come on.... CREEEEEPY.
As for the videos... I claim them cruel... but only because I hate those things
mirph 07-24-2008, 02:46 AM On the younger end (I'd say up to 12) cruel.
SchlegelsBaby 07-24-2008, 08:15 AM Cruel. I don't even like those videos. Plus, I have better ways to scare my kids if that's my goal.
Mindy 07-24-2008, 09:22 AM I hate those things.
Kelnbub 07-24-2008, 09:35 AM I think it depends on the kid and how well you know them. I have done it to my brothers, pretty funny. I would never do it to my cousins, they would have nightmares for years. So really, it depends on the kid. Hell, those things have scared me.
Wicked 07-24-2008, 10:23 AM It soooooooo depends on the child!
LaneyBug 07-24-2008, 10:25 AM I think it totally depends on the kid. You know if your child will enjoy it or freak.
Airman's.Reina 07-24-2008, 10:30 AM It's hilarious. :lol It's a video...a simple explanation afterward will teach them the VERY valuable lesson that most of what you see in films and on television is not real.
:agree
Aunt Sponge 07-25-2008, 08:53 AM It depends on the nature of the child - woudl they be mortified nad have nightmares or would they be just fine once they realize it's a joke?
some people are NEVER ok to frighten on purpose like that.
Some people are fine no matter how often or what the age.
I am one of those that should NEVER be frightened under any circumstance.
My husband is a person who should be scared to death at least once a month to keep his ego down.
We've always been this way.
HollyJay 07-25-2008, 09:41 AM Personally, I think they're stupid. Would I show one to my kid? Well, I guess I'll just have to wait til he's older and see if he's the kind of kid that would think it was funny.
