Question, I have always wanted to dye my hair purple and I have no idea how to go about that cause well i have really dark hair, and the few times i have dyed my hair it looks funny, so for those of you who have dark hair any ideas, or should i just go in and find someone who can do it professionally?

um i do hair. so lets see if your hair is already darker than you want the purple to be you would have to bleach it to lighten it up and then put the purple on....the only way to get dark hair to go shades lighter is to obviously lighten it but bleach aka highlights. pm if you need more help

It depends on the shade of purple you want. If it's a light purple, then you will have to bleach it first. If you are wanting a dark purple, you would probably be ok... I just put some dark red highlights in my hair, and it turned out really well. My hair is very dark brown naturally.

i died mine purple........i just went to sallys and they had a dark purple, for dark hair only

i had to bleach it when i died it pink, and now that im back to brown, it drives me crazy when my color starts to fade and the under half is blonde-ish.

i'm pretty sure you have to bleach it first too if you want light purple. but when you do it, you MUST post pics. or else :spank will occur.

A lot of friends with dark hair have dyed it great colors using the info from this site and their dyes.

If it's a rich dark purple then you should have no problem dying it. Anything that is light will need some sort of bleaching method used.

If you're only wanting highlights, there is a kit you can buy at Sally, it's called N'Rage Bleach n Color. It comes in purple, blue, pink, and green.

It is one-step bleach and color. I have used it many times, even on dyed black hair with bright, vibrant results. It costs under $10.

You will want to deep condition like crazy afterward(placenta would be good also)just like any other time you apply color...but it does work very well and is very easy to apply.

I did my hair pink once. you couldn't really tell unless I was out in the sun. I would go to a professional though

Ohh, bleach it then, yup. You want it WHITE or the color won't take...make sure to use a sealant after you're done(also available at the beauty supply...some call it a "gloss") and keep heat on your hair while the purple is on there.

Actually, dude...if you want to come over here, I'll do it for you no prob. DH will be in the field after tomorrow anyway so I'll be bored...
