Do you have to apply to housing in person before they will actually put you on the list?
My dh is under the impression this is what the housing office is telling him. However he is deployed and we are out of state. Yes he is already detatched from the old command and at the new command. They deployed shortly after he arrived so we opted to stay put till they come back.
Also because he didn't go into housing within the 30 days of arriving where does that put our control date?
Thank you

Your control date will be when you submit your application.
You can mail in an application, but it will not do much. You typically have to apply in person, either your dh or you with a POA. HTH

We have never lived in base housing, but applied for it in San Diego. We have orders to Miramar, but we live in NC until DH finishes training. He was able to get us on the list through fax- we just have to check in in person once we get there next month.

depends on where you're going...if you're going San Diego they won't even put you on the list till you check in in person and your control date will be froem the day you go to them to get on the list OR if you're just checking in it will go to the check in date.

Uh..I live in San Diego base housing and I never did anything in person there.
If you all are referring to your SO checking into their command first then yes, that has to happen, but as far as housing goes and stuff no you never have to do anything in person except for signing your lease and stuff when you get there.
Bruce checked into his command in San Diego in June 2007 and we decided for me to move like 3 months ago and I am already in our house here in Serra Mesa. My husband sort of went on a deployment because he hasn't been in San Diego since last November. He still isn't here in San Diego. I was able to do everything on my own.

It depends on the housing people. When we were stationed at fort bragg, they at first didn't have the policy that you had to be there in person... but then after about a year they changed it and you had to be there in person... So I had to go down from Ohio while my DH was deployed and apply... but here at bliss, we got on their waiting list before we ever got here.

to get on a waiting list you and your SO can fill it out and have it faxed there, no problem. you dont have to be there in person here in SD. we did it not to long ago while my husband was deployed. i didnt have to be there in person until the house was ready and approved for us and we were the 1st on the waiting list.
i drove down to SD and signe the lease and all that. you have to have a power of attorney to do the whole thing without him. i had a POA but i had an issue. on mine i guess it was missing something on it. it didnt grant me a certain something.. i think it had to do with transfering his money or something like that. so the lady had to email my husband and he had to print it, sign it and fax it to them. it took long cuz they were having email issues on the ship and he was mad because he thought a POA would grant me to do everything, you know? so make sure that everything is on there that youll need otherwise hell need to email another thing at the office when youre there signing the lease.
