View Full Version : Mortgages
*~*Cori*~* 07-28-2008, 02:52 PM If you have a mortgage how much do you pay a month?
How much was the house when you bought it?
I just can't fathom people spending over a grand a month on a mortgage but I don't see any other options. We looked into buying a 2000sq ft double wide mobile home and it was amazing and not like the trailor park ones you think of. It was around $90 grand and we would have to add a well/septic into that since we can't tie into my parents. So, it would be closer to $100,000 after all the taxes and stuff. They said our payment would be roughly $850 a month... FOR A EFFING DOUBLE WIDE??? :wowsers
My DH is not in the Marines anymore and civi pay with no housing allowances sucks royally let me tell yah. He makes less than $22 grand a year so we can't afford with all other living expenses anything over $650 and thats pushing it. :no
With my DH's shift he works he is never home and we never see him so he doesn't want me to get a job. If I work days I don't see him at all unless I watch him sleep at night and I can't work afternoon/nights cause I refuse someone else to raise my child. So. working isn't an option right now with his shift/job. I mean we are okay with only having one income. Jer's child support pays his tuiton to school and his expenses so we use Josh's income for our bills and such. I just know when we were renting a single wide trailor... new and nice... it was $600 a month and we were struggling daily to keep from sinking and that was with getting $250 more a month in child support(mine went down when exDH moved into base housing) We live in a smaller rural area but the cost of living is insane for the area... houses that look like dumps are no less than $150 grand and when you make $11.28/hr that isn't possible to swing. :no
So, long story short... can you let me be a tad nosey into your lifes and see what you pay? What the average mortgage is?
Lckychrmzz 07-28-2008, 03:02 PM We bought our house for $315,000 and our mortgage payment is just under $2300 a month. Ya, OUCH!
Purpur 07-28-2008, 03:05 PM my house was about $75,000 and I paid $600 a month. Small house, good timing.
*~*Cori*~* 07-28-2008, 03:10 PM HOLY CRACKERS Stacey!!!!!!!!! :wow

Lckychrmzz 07-28-2008, 03:11 PM HOLY CRACKERS Stacey!!!!!!!!! :wow

Luckily the BAH here is $2058. It still doesnt cover the mortgage let alone the other crap but we budget well.
Rileysmom 07-28-2008, 03:13 PM We are looking at houses a little under $300K and after taxes and insurance and all that, probably around 2K a month. Sadly, that much money only gets us a 3-4 bedroom that needs a bit of work here in CA!
Also, I'm gonna move this to the Home, Sweet Home forum. :)
*~*Cori*~* 07-28-2008, 03:15 PM Thanks Trey, I didn't even know we had one of those forums :lol
Rileysmom 07-28-2008, 03:16 PM Yep, its new! I thought that way you might get some more experience answers! :mrgreen
I was gonna ask this question the other day too, so thanks for posting it!
fridayheather 07-28-2008, 03:22 PM Our mortgage on our condo is for 130K and is about $1035 a month. However, that includes principal, interest, mortgage insurance and taxes. When we first moved in, the property values were lower, so taxes were lower and our payment was like...$930 or something like that. It had gone up to slightly over $1100 (:freakout) but then our taxes went down and our payment went down.
We are getting this place ready to sell though, too small for our growing family.
michellelac 07-28-2008, 03:28 PM We bought our house for 115,000 and we pay $940 a month and that includes insurance, taxes and all the other crap.
CoffeeGirl 07-28-2008, 03:33 PM Yep, its new! I thought that way you might get some more experience answers! :mrgreen

Its one of my fave new forums & I am glad to have begged for it cause it is helping alot of people

we bought for 317k. our mortgage is for 296k and we pay 2184< eta... includes taxes, hoi, and mi /p>
KatReborn 07-28-2008, 03:45 PM When we were going to get a house (we might be moving so we decided to hold off) we were buying at 82K and the monthly payment was 650
proudnvywife01 07-28-2008, 03:48 PM We bought our house for 226k and our mortgage is $1560 a month.
BLBnJVB3 07-28-2008, 04:14 PM Our mortgage (which also includes insurance and property taxes) is 411.23. We mortgaged a little over 52,000. We put 20% down so we avoided the pmi. We rent it out.
Now, we rent the house we live in and we pay 1,395. It was for sale or rent. If we had bought it our mortgage without property taxes and insurance would have been 1600. That was at 270,000. Property taxes for this house are over 6000 a year. There is no way we could have afforded to buy it on just his income.
gunsgirl 08-10-2008, 04:15 PM our house is 1840 Sq Ft= our payment per month is 1431. just slightly under our BAH rate. the cost of our home was 189,900.
USCGBoxerMom 08-10-2008, 04:19 PM We bought at $152K, our mortgage is just about 1200 a month..that includes the taxes. We pay our insurance outright. One thing to REALLY keep in mind when budgeting for your mortgage, even if you have a fixed rate, if you do not calculate correctly for increasing home taxes (and they WILL increase) your mortgage payment will be adjusted by your mortgage company to cover the increase. Our taxes have gone up several thousand dollars since we purchased our home.
WIKSWIFE 08-10-2008, 04:25 PM HOLY CRAP!!! I cant find a decent house in Chesapeake or Va. Bch for less thatn 280-300 thousand. We need a 4 bdrm.
Maybe I'll give housing a second look. BAH is only $1600.
rcwant2be 08-10-2008, 04:31 PM i'm looking into a 1br apt...$700-$1000+/month. imagine spending a grand a month on RENT & having nothing to show for it.
cori...with your family size, your family income probably qualifies you for section 8.
mossey2000 08-10-2008, 04:34 PM 800 or so with taxes etc. we have a high interest rate on a 63k mortgage. we will refinance in a year or so when our credit gets better.
Hisgirl 08-10-2008, 05:05 PM $930 on a $120K loan (we bought at the right time, in 2003) It's a VA Fixed.
It has gone up about $100 due to taxes and insurance.
Good luck! We have our mortgage thru USAA and THEY ROCK! I think mobile home mortgages are different though, because they depreciate (though the land doesn't.) Not sure but that was what I had heard.
**edited to add that home I'm talking about is near NAS Jax, FL and NOT in Hawaii, LMAO!
HeatherNichole 08-10-2008, 05:08 PM I am RENTING an apartment for $750 per month...wow...I am sinking money into...well nothing!!!
FTCWifey 08-10-2008, 08:51 PM I bought my first home, a condo, for 108k. I put 10% down and then paid something like 200/week for mortgage and property taxes. But then I had my condo fees on top of that and they were $300.
My next home will be purchases in HI at the lovely low price of at least 500k. :sigh I don't remember what that works out to monthly, but I am pretty sure DHs BAH just covers it. Thankfully by the time we make that purchase I will be making good money as an RN.
CocoaGoddess 08-11-2008, 03:48 PM
we bought for 317k. our mortgage is for 296k and we pay 2184< eta... includes taxes, hoi, and mi /p>
Wow really? In San Diego?
We pay $2,700 per month for rent. Of course, we don't have to worry about up keep, taxes, yard maintenance and stuff like that but still. I didn't think it was possible to buy a home out here for less than $400,000.
Aundi 08-11-2008, 04:05 PM High mortgage payments is precisely why we have stayed in our mobile home. I/we flat out refuse to spend 300,000 for a home in VA/Hampton Roads that can easily be bought in GA for 130,000.
We pay $145 for our mobile home note and $325 for the lot rent. We are currently getting out of all of our debt and waiting for our cars to be paid off and we are heading back to GA. We also flat out refuse to ever have a mortgage be any higher than my dh's retirement check. I could not imagine going through transition with a high mortgage.....it's been scary enough of a time without a huge mortgage payment. I'm glad even though my dh was an E-7 that we never took the plunge and bought one here!
familyof4 08-11-2008, 04:26 PM Our house is 1800 sq ft. We paid 180k and our mortage payment is 1200 or somewhere right around there. And that includes everything. We did get it at a great time but we also didnt get in at the worst time. Even though we got a great deal houses are still going down where we live so its kind-of a bummer :) But I know within the next 8-10 years we will be able to make some money :)
cameron_ambers 08-11-2008, 05:02 PM we got our house for 119,000.00 and its 969.00 a month.
Its just a two bedroom 1 bath 1,100 sq ft. but it sits on 2 acres and 2 seprate garages.
PrincessBlue505 08-11-2008, 05:12 PM We bought our house for $133,000. Our mortgage (incl. taxes, insurance) is 1123/mo. which is exactly equal to our BAH here. We didn't put any money down so that's the payment for the full $133,000. The sellers paid closing costs, etc. We don't have to pay PMI or anything like that.
We bought our house for $301,000 and our payments are almost $2300.00 a month. Our BAH is only $1853 for Va. Beach, when Allen gets his promotion it will go up to $1972.00. Thank goodness we don't have many bills because BAH doesn't even begin to cover all of our mortgage.
monkeyinabarrel 08-11-2008, 09:40 PM I am RENTING an apartment for $750 per month...wow...I am sinking money into...well nothing!!!

petsparkle 08-11-2008, 09:50 PM $165,000 and we pay $1250 (ish, I don't have the exact number to hand). It's the property tax that goes up every year that kills me. Over 5 years it's gone up $200 a month. Ugh. BAH is close at $1130, but still we're out of pocket. BAH is way low here for houses (they assume you rent a townhouse). To buy in this area now is $250,000 and up for something like mine. And I think BAH is too low with my mortgage...
