We are going to Ramstein! I lived in Vilsek way back when I was younger,so I'm no stranger to living in Germany. I know it's a whole different ball park when you are a wife than when you are a kiddo.

I don't even know what kind of info I'm looking for. I just wanna know anything you ladies are willing to offer up.
Anyone there or that has been there......

How do/did you like it?
What can I expect (concerning anything really?)

:giggle Sorry so vague, I just feel kind of :shrug

Wow, lucky you!
I never lived there before, but I've/we've been there a bunch of times already to visit some people in the area or when my man needed some stuff uniform wise, cause where we're at they don't've too much at all since it's a joined base with all the branches on it and specific AF stuff you can only find over in Ramstein!
Ramstein was/'s 1 of the overseas places on our "dream sheet", but we don't know yet where we're going so far and it seems like we didn't get picked for anything in this cycle!
I've heard from people I know and read only good things about Ramstein so far and I'm pretty sure you and your husband/family'll enjoy the time over there!
Good luck with everything and've fun while you're over there!
Regards and much love!

Congrats. Germany is so awesome! We stayed on Ramstein while we were in Germany. There is a chilli's there :drool It was so yummy. The PX was pretty nice. I didnt see the housing cause we stayed in the hotel.

The area is really cool and there is a TON of stuff to do if you like outdoors stuff.

We're at Ramstein....so far I like it. We're waiting on a house, it's stairwell living here. There are some townhomes...supposedly they are going to take down the apartments and build all townhomes because the Air Force sees it as sub standard....ha!!! The apartments here are really nice, they should see Army Substandard living!!!

:yay I love living here. My DH works at Ramstein. We live off base though because the on base housing looked so boring. We love our German home. We just PCSed here in May so if you want any details on anything let me know, I am more than willing to help out!

He'll be out there in October, and I'll be out there within a few months of him.

Does any one know what the on base housing wait is like?
If you live off base how easy/hard was it to find something?

We live off base. The housing on base are basically apartments. We stayed in pet lodging when we first got there and were told that if we got housing it would look exactly like that. It was nice but too hotel for me. So we searched off base. We just went to housing every two days for a new print out of places. We knew we were only looking in Kaiserslautern and Landstuhl. We didn't want to be far from town. We wanted to be within walking distance of things to do. If you are looking in the smaller towns you'll probably find something huge right away. Anyway, we looked at about 2-3 places a day. After about 7 days of searching we found the perfect place for us! There are always plenty of places for rent, so if you want off base you'd find it quick.

I'll be in Ramstein next July, pretty far off, but I'm getting so excited. We've decided to live off base. Sorry I don't have any info for you since this will be my first move with the military so I'll be adjusting to a new country and the lifestyle, but I've heard so many great things about the country.

It's beautiful here. The housing is nice, but if you mind your place looking like everyones then it's not for you. It's apartments, wood floors, heaters, but no AC....heads up no A/C anywhere in Germany. It's a big adjustment, the cost of living is a lot higher so be ready for that. We're still waiting on housing.....still.....ugh. Two months to go hopefully less but the last I checked we were at the 2 month que......you can get a place off base for a decent price. A lot of people that we know that live off base though want to move back on because the utilities are so expensive, lots of people wanting to get back on before winter and the heaters have to come on. Electricity from what I hear, is crazy expensive.

They just upped the utility allowance in Germany. They do pay you more than enough in utility pay to live off base, just don't spend it on other things, we put ours into saving because oil will kill you. We have friends at Ramstein, off base housing is nice, the farther out you go the bigger place you can usually get. Have fun!!!

:agree

We don't even use half of our utility money. We get a LOT, and the rest goes into savings in case we have to pay at the end of the year.
