View Full Version : Ladies.. I so need your help!!
JustMrsJoann 08-08-2008, 07:07 PM We need to put in for our housing. We really have no idea where to go, we've looked into Bayview Hills, but, have read that it's not in that good of a area (high crime, gangs), so now, we're looking into Scripps Ranch? Anyone know anything about that area?
We just are at a standstill and don't want to make the wrong choice since my husband will be out on deployment, so please, help me ladies!!!
crumper07 08-08-2008, 07:11 PM Hey hey waterford at orange park isn't that bad. A year ago there was a few car break ins but not anymore :dunno I feel pretty safe here and they have good prices!
I would have loved to do a JAX girls night but I am moving in less than a week to Oklahoma :( I hope you find something!
amdo_wife 08-08-2008, 07:11 PM Scripps Ranch is way better area than Bayview Hills but depending on where he'll be stationed at, traffic might be bad.
amdo_wife 08-08-2008, 07:14 PM If you have other questions, let me know.
JustMrsJoann 08-08-2008, 07:15 PM He'll be stationed at the 32nd street base, I believe it's called Naval San Diego.
JustMrsJoann 08-08-2008, 07:17 PM I tried to get into the lincoln housing link, but, it's not working for me for some reason, and I wanted to see what Pomerado Terrace looked like.
We're so lost, we do have a child and 1 cat. So, we'd be getting a 2 bedroom as well
MelissaMc424 08-08-2008, 07:17 PM Scripps Ranch might be a bit of a drive down to 32nd st. If you're wanting a shorter commute (save $$ on gas.. it's still $4 here in town and was $3.89 last time I was on base last week) I'd look at other areas. Do you have pets?? We're in Lofgren Terrace, and right now have flat rate rent, and an easy commute for G to work at 32nd st. Lofgren Terrace doesn't allow pets though.
For some reason I'm thinking one of the ladies on the board lives at Pomerado...
mrspollak 08-08-2008, 07:18 PM Im not quite sure about scripps ranch i heard it was nice. but :dunno i live in the serra mesa area in housing and i like this area its nice havent really heard anything bad about the area. and the drive to base isnt back at all u just take the 15 all the way down and its about an 10 to 15 min drive..
JustMrsJoann 08-08-2008, 07:19 PM We do have 1 cat, were hoping that she'll be able to make the move, she's an older cat too..
mrspollak 08-08-2008, 07:19 PM oh well never mind serra mesa doesnt allow any cats or dogs.. sorry i couldnt be any help
JustMrsJoann 08-08-2008, 07:27 PM Grrr. I wish the freaking link would work!!!
JustMrsJoann 08-08-2008, 07:29 PM And, why is Canyon View so desired? The wait list for that is HUGGGEEE
amdo_wife 08-08-2008, 07:34 PM I'd suggest Murphy Canyon since they take pets and the traffic to 32nd is very good, it's always the opposite way, about a 10 minute drive. Except the current wait time is 8-12 mos. for a 2 bedroom but it looks like you won't be moving for almost 6 mos. so if you make the application now, maybe they'll have a house for you then. It's a great area. The civilian community around it is very qyuiet and people are nice and they really embrace having the military as their neighbors. Murphy Canyon has a small NEX and a NEX gasoline station and 2 elementary schools. Wal-mart and Fry's Electronics (and quite a few shops and restaurants) are just a 2 minute drive. I love it. We only had 2 choices, though. Murphy Canyon or Admiral Hartman. It's in a really quiet community called Tierrasanta, the Island on the Hills. If you get to see it, you'll know why.
amdo_wife 08-08-2008, 07:36 PM I live in Canyon View, in the Murphy Canyon Community. There are 4 housing communities inside Murphy Canyon. Canyon View is for officers and Aero, Orleck and Santo Terrace are for the enlisted. It's a very big housing area. Biggest in the world.
JustMrsJoann 08-08-2008, 07:38 PM So, what if we put Murphy caynon down and then a home isn't available, then what? Do we go back to the bottom of the list?
MelissaMc424 08-08-2008, 07:38 PM And, why is Canyon View so desired? The wait list for that is HUGGGEEE
Because it's Murphy Canyon.. everyone wants to live there because you get small yards and can have pets..
JustMrsJoann 08-08-2008, 07:39 PM And, the hubby is enlisted, he's a E-5
JustMrsJoann 08-08-2008, 07:39 PM So, if we don't get MC, then what are some other options, with a pet, that has a yard?

If that home's not available, you're stuck on the list until it is, unless you take one that's readily available at another complex.
JustMrsJoann 08-08-2008, 07:39 PM And, just so you know. I love you ladies SOOOO freaking much for helping me. We're coming from FL, so we have no idea!
MelissaMc424 08-08-2008, 07:40 PM So, if we don't get MC, then what are some other options, with a pet, that has a yard?
Yard wise, there aren't any really. There are very few places that take pets as far as housing goes, and most are townhome style.

I was in your shoes in April of '07.. we PCS'd out here from TX..
amdo_wife 08-08-2008, 07:45 PM I don't think you'll be put in the bottom of the list. You'd just have to wait until a unit becomes available when you get here. Call them a couple of months before you move to see where you're at in the waiting list and let them know the exact date you're coming. If you get into Murphy Canyon, it'll be one of the other 3 communities which is Aero, Santo and Orleck. It'll be a townhouse with a 1 car garage and a yard.
Is this the website you go to? https://www.housing.navy.mil/onestop/
When you go to the website, what exactly do you get?
MelissaMc424 08-08-2008, 07:48 PM Have you looked into Chesterton? If we end up with sea orders here, we're moving up there to Sr. housing.
I've heard nothing but great things about that neighborhood...
amdo_wife 08-08-2008, 07:50 PM We moved from Florida, too. I have absolutely no idea what to expect so I looked up the map of where the housing areas were and just picked the one furthest from the border. You get cheaper insurance rates. I got quote from USAA and gave them the 32nd street zip code. But when I gave them the Murphy Canyon zip code, it was way lower.
I think Admiral Hartman takes pets too.
amdo_wife 08-08-2008, 07:58 PM I'm sorry but I looked it up and Admiral Hartman was for E-6 to E-9's and officers only. Mira Mesa Ridge and Pomerado Terrace has 2 bedrooms and takes cats. I haven't been there but I know of the area. Both doesn't have a long wait time for 2 bedrooms. I'm just not sure if any of them has yards. All I know is all MC units have yards.

I don't think we can move into Chesterton. The ranks for that housing is E6 and above, I believe.

We have Geicco for our insurance, we get pretty good rates here in FL, we can't wait until Cali though, we heard it'll be lower

Great! We'll look into Pomerado Terrace and Mira Mesa Ridge.
