View Full Version : HELP! Trying to ship a TV over to Germany!
Jillove27 08-19-2008, 02:44 PM Our tv recently died so we are looking to purchase a new tv. :( Talked to AAFES and they wont special order the tv we want that is on AAFES.com. :bringit Unfortunately AAFES will only ship to CONUS and the postal service will not ship TVs. I have checked UPS and FEDEX and they both want around $700 :wow for freight shipping to get an LCD tv over here. Is there other options for getting it over here or are we pretty much stuck with the crappy selection in a PX over here? :dunno
amazinggrace 08-19-2008, 02:45 PM You need a TV that willl work in germany :)
The TV's at the Power Zone work here and there. We still have our TV from over there (many years old) and just have a special conveter the cable plug plugs into :)
Why not go to another base in Germany to buy one? We have an AWESOME selection at the Powerzone on Vogelweh.
Unrelated but we bought a brand new LCD TV before we moved over here. It's dual voltage but not multisystem so it won't even work over here :no
torie. 08-19-2008, 02:49 PM I think you need to just stick with the selection at Power Zone. :dunno I've had a couple of things I needed shipped and we just had to give up and go without because the FedEx/DHL costs are too high.
torie. 08-19-2008, 02:49 PM Oh! Have you tried contacting the manufacturer or finding a website that will ship via APO?

Thanks but we have a huge converter so dual voltage is not a priority. We don't want to buy a tv just to buy one. DH wants a tv that has the newer features available currently in the states which is practically none of the models in the PX. DH says a tv bought on the German economy will not work with our American xbox and other equipment because it would use a different video format and with the weak dollar we would be paying way too much. We don't need a multi-system tv as we only watch AFN and not German TV so an NTSC only tv is fine.

We are trying to order one through AAFES in Graf but we want a back up plan in case they cannot order one for us like our small PX here.
Jillove27 08-19-2008, 03:01 PM Oh! Have you tried contacting the manufacturer or finding a website that will ship via APO?
Yes, we have contacted the manufacturer and it is not the manufacturer that will not ship it to us, it is the US postal service. It is too large for them to ship. So unless we pay for the expensive FEDEX/UPS shipping we can't order it our selves.
I don't know what base you're at but you should check out what is available here. There is a huge selection, not all multisystem. It seems like it would be cheaper to just drive and pick one up. Can't hurt to look ya know? What new features is he wanting?
amazinggrace 08-19-2008, 03:03 PM The Power Zone at Vogelweh wouldd be worth the trip....you can call and ask if they have what you want.

DH says he wants 1080P, 10bit LCD panel, 120HZ anti motion blur, Dynamic Back-Light Control, x.v. color, whatever those are. :dunno

Thats a great idea, we are looking to get out of the area! We will make a trip out of it because it is at least a 3 1/2 hour drive. :)

You really should! I know a lot of people from other surrounding bases head to Vogelweh and Ramstein for better selection of everything, and Chilis :rofl I don't know what any of the TV stuff means. But hopefully you'll be able to find something here. The Vogelweh Power Zone is like a huge toy store for my husband :lol

Then he will LOVE it! and I will be bored. But he really wants this tv and I am sick of hearing about it! So I am trying to be supportive and help him. The worst thing we will have to do is ship it from the states. I'm going there in two weeks so I will ship it then. I just hoe Vogelweh has a better selection than our PXs here.
susiusa 08-20-2008, 09:10 AM normally you can order what's on the AAFES cataloge and have it shipped to your local px. I did this with a outside playhouse for the kids 6 years ago. It took about 2 month but was for sure a lot cheaper back then than buying it on the economy.
We bought our TV at walmart germany (when there still was Walmart) and it works just fine with our Wii. It was cheaper than the Px as we used the VAT form and the euro rate wasn't bad back then.
Jennifer 08-20-2008, 09:40 AM Check with your echange to see if you can special order a TV through them.
rcwant2be 08-20-2008, 09:53 AM I shipped a 19" tube tv via usps from my home addy to my college addy before.
