I have it but it's mean to me and always tells me I have a low balance. LOL It seems pretty cool but I haven't really taken the time to really learn how it works. I think it will be a great tool once I do.

Mint immediately pulls in your balances, purchases, stock trades, etc. to give you a complete picture of your personal finances. Mint connects securely with more than 7,000 US financial institutions, saving you hours of tedious data entry.

Yeahhhhh I'm not comfy with putting all of my account information on one web based spot. That's too risky, no matter how "secure" a site claims to be.

That's why I'm skeptical :thinking

It sounds risky, but considering I pay everything online, I've already taken the risk. And it's all pulling it from one bank anyway. So in essence my info is already sitting in one spot. Besides I have NavyFed you need a social security number to get anything done and THAT'S not all over the Net.

For someone who has NO clue how to even begin to make a budget it's good Emmy.

:agree That's why I exited the site once it asked me for that stuff.

I have this thing called a budget sheet. You print it out, fill it in, and there ya go. You can even do them in Excel.

Those are the programs I like. Like Quicken and Microsoft Money where it's on your own personal comp, and you can even save your statements and history to an external hard drive.

It takes more work, and you have to keep it up, but it also helps to teach money management because you have to physically look at what you're making vs. what you're spending :yes

Well with your budget sheet you already have your budget in mind right?

No, actually to start with we had no idea where our money was going. So I tracked our expenses and filled everything in at the END of the month. Did that for 2 months, then looked at our past bill sheets and came up with an estimate of what those are every month and that became the budget for bills, rent is always the same, and the only real budgeting we do past that is recreation, savings, random expenses like car maintenance and clothes shopping, and groceries.

I tried that but it didn't really tell me anything. I mean I KNOW that I'm coming up short every month and I'm not putting any away. But I don't know if how much we spent on groceries is realistic for two people or if it's too much. I try not to spend too much on silly stuff but the things you HAVE to have like...utilities and food......I have no clue if my figures are realistic. Mint.com tells me that and I like that.

It would make me a little nervous having 1 online system have access to ALL my financial information. I know they say they are secure - but they are too new for me to even consider using.
